Would you eat a chimpanzee?

Mock Turtle

Oh my, did I say that!

I wouldn't eat any primate - well, apart from humans in a desperate situation and where consent was given, as on a lifeboat or some other such scenario. Chimpanzees are not exactly thriving and if it was likely that they would be 'farmed' this would make it even worse. I'd rather see us eating less meat anyway, and if I had more willpower I would act on my beliefs.

Like so many other species, and pets, they are far too intelligent to treat them like this.

It's an animal. Put chimpanzee steaks on the grill and I'll sprinkle a just little seasoning on...I like my meat fairly natural.
Humans are animals too last I checked, aren't they? Would you like some of that meat grilled with some fava beans and a fine chianti? ;) Aren't you meaning to say they aren't human animals, so therefore dinner's on?

I don't consider humans animals, and if you follow that logic, why is eating a chimpanzee any different than a cow?

Since they are our closest relatives in the animal kingdom, I probably wouldn't eat them. That and the fact that some people remind me of chimps. Can't understand them. Fling their poo. Walk around dragging their knuckles and thumping their chest. Not a real appetizing image to promote chimpsuey.

But if I was going to eat it, I'd serve it with roasted peppers, a little cumin, some braised polenta, roasted carrots and asparagus or Brussels sprouts.

This is a question I have for all of my meat eating friends. If you had the opportunity to eat chimpanzee meat, would you? Why or why not?
This is a pointless question.
Different cultures have different views on what should or should not be eaten.

Interesting. No reservations, eh? What about for dogs or cats?
I can't say no reservations, as there could be a potential for feelings of guilt like when I eat pork or beef, but the close relative thing coming up in this thread wouldn't factor into it.
As for a cat or dog, probably not. But if it's any consultation I'd probably try human if given a chance (I don't like us as much as I do cows, lmao).

What do you consider them then? Vegetables? Minerals?

Of course we are animals. We share the same biology and construction of all other mammals on this planet. We are genetically linked with other animals. The DNA doesn't lie. What do you consider us then? Extraterrestrials that only just happen to look related to and share the same biology as other animal species on this planet? Did God only make us look like other primates to test your faith? I'm really curious how you say we aren't.

, and if you follow that logic, why is eating a chimpanzee any different than a cow?
Because a chimpanzee is much more closely related to us in the animal kingdom than a cow is. But it's more than just that of course. Why don't you eat your cat or your dog, for instance?

You are too big to be a bacteria and move too much to be a tree. Trust me, you are an animal.

And I don't know about you, but I am not a fan of eating close relatives.

I would if I had to. I don't eat canines because they smell bad and I don't imagine they taste good and they have a lot of parasites. I have eaten bobcat just to try it, so eating a cat would be no biggie but I don't really consider them appealing. Generally, prey animals are better for consuming than predators.
We are made in God's image, far above any animal.

There are certain breeds of dogs that are kept specifically for meat consumption. They are raised like cattle. Would you give them a taste if given the opportunity?

Very true on both counts. What's fun to think about, though, is the reasoning they employ when defining why or why not these behaviors are acceptable

Would you feel hesitancy at eating a chimpanzee, though? Any cultural reason you could point to for why or why not you would?

Personally I'm a no guy. They are too human like, imo, but if I had no ither choice I guess I would

That would be like asking, "if you couldn't be a man anymore would you choose to be a woman instead?" I refuse to entertain this question with a valid response.

Uhhh... It's really not, though. You don't know how a chimpanzee would taste, I'm assuming. I know I don't. For all we know it could be the best tasting meat there is. What makes it so outlandish?

I absolutely would not eat a chimpanzee, no. I wouldn't eat horse meat either, for different but not unrelated reasons.

I also don't know what it's like to be a woman, and I never will.

I'll try just about anything that's safe.

The question is, what do I give back to what I kill in order to live?
