Would you feel stalked with too many like points?

I have given well more than 15 award points to the same person in one day over a highly controversial thread where the person was defending something they didn't agree with, and I didn't fully agree with, and you wouldn't think they would defend it, with very noble rational reasons and examples that impressed me.

(I love to see people defending Religions , philosophy, or political party they don't particularly like or agree with btw. It is so very ecumenical, noble-minded, unconventional, and a mentality that can bring unity.)

If a person were to flip out seeing a flood of trophies, awards, or points, from the same person in a short time, report them as a stalker, would disciplinary actions possibly be taken?

It's a silly question, but maybe I should, if I admire a thread, ask someone first, if I can like almost all the posts, in (I think ) over 10 pages worth of debating, prior to doing so?

There are three parties on the ballot. vote for the one your heart leans closest to, even if your vote is "none of the above". :D

Sometimes it is simply "a big fan" of the material or approach, or sentiment, not a stalker. Just saying...:p

The second poll result was supposed to say "I would not feel like I had a stalker".

Vote as if it said that please.

Not sure if a Mod would be so nice as to change that. Sorry. :)

I would feel that someone is just being supportive.
If someone where trying to find where I lived or my name, I might feel stalked.

I was at an atheist forum years ago where a girl from Turkey warned people "THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST! STOP LIKING MY POSTS! THAT IS STALKING!"

She also was notorious according to others at the forum for hating men, and lost her account for antisemitic remarks repeatedly bashing the right of Israel to exist, and labeling it a "Zionist Crusade"!

I personally felt sorry for her, as she seemed deeply troubled, angry, and wounded, and I did not like how people mocked her after her account and all her posts were destroyed.

There was even some one who sock puppeted the forum pretending to be her, and parroting some of her hatred for men.

It was actually a very sad moment I thought.

She snapped at me for liking her posts as "harassment".

I don't know how such a person survives, and she must have no joy.

I've been intrigued by her though, just because her way of thinking was so bizarre and sad! :( I simply couldn't be angry at such a person, but pity her.

She was actually the person who inspired this thread, but it was NOT her thread that I gave over 15 trophies to.

I liked probably only four of her posts, and she said "STOP HARASSING ME"!

I wish there was a thumbs down rating. I'd give a lot more points.
There is on one of the science forums I subscribe to. Everyone has a net rating, with -ve ratings subtracting from it. I've had a few, as have many people, but I'm pleased to say I am net positive.

But I think to do that you need a certain level of maturity from participants (hem hem), and/or a lot of moderation to make sure nobody gets victimised and destroyed in a feeding frenzy.

Right, the maturity factor. In religious debates it's been my experience that just citing results in science will be offensive and negative to some members.

It just makes me think of Reddit. Reddit has an upvote and downvote system and it completely destroys discussions. It's why we have the "Reddit hive-mind" stereotype.

I don't understand why adding downvotes to a discussion board would ever be a good thing. If you agree with what somebody says, then it makes some sense to have a reaction for that so you don't waste a post, but if you disagree then you should contribute to the discussion by replying to them with something more than just dismissal.

Downvotes, to me, seem to encourage intellectual laziness. I just got completely destroyed in the Book Banning thread and, I mean, I deserved it. Several valid points were levied against me. If I just got 15 downvotes, I never would have learned from that experience.

Yes if you have them they need to be applied rarely and responsibly. It's OK on that science forum, as it is quite strictly moderated for thins like off-topic digressions, failure to respond to points raised, arguing in bad faith and so on. So people tend to be disciplined in what they post - and trolls are quickly excreted.
