First off of it was the devil, why would I believe he would allow me to just poke my head in for five seconds to see what it's like, and then I can step back out?

Once you got your head in there he would probably kick you in the butt knocking you the rest of the way in and while closing the portal be saying "Stupid humans. Make a deal with the devil and you lose" lol
