Would you want to know when you would die

If you could find out when and how you would die,(a gods plans) would you want to know?

I really don't know. Probably not....
On one hand you could do many things you wanted without worries.
On the other hand you would become anxious as the time neared.
Yes. If it is, say, in 10 years and while jogging, then I would become extremely rich in the meantime by showing how you can survive unscathed multiple jumps from the Empire State Building without a parachute.

Technically I already died in Feb 2017 from a heart attack.

Way I see it im on bonus time. If I knew a date, it would be just like when they told me I was undergoing a heart attack the last time.

Apprehension would be present, yet not completely fearful. I was calm in the past, it's my take the future will hold that I'll die well when it's for real and not just a 'consultation'.

Sure. Let me know. My schizophrenia has already told me though.

Well it is interesting as to how so many wouldn't want to know, and perhaps as being too stressful, but looked at another way, it might bring more peace (being resigned to such) and perhaps more concentrated planning as to what one could achieve in the time remaining. Not sure which I would prefer but I can see the benefits of either.

I am OK with dying. Knowing the time and date will let me prepare better, one or two things, although I have packed my bags. Also, it will be better for family, like knowing the time and date of travel. We can have the last hugs, and call someone who may be living in a different city. And as Meow Mix said, have a last glass of drink along with kebabs. I am completing 79, 16th September. I know that living for ever is the religious selling line. That is fool's gold. No God plans this, it is a natural process. I am not going to be anxious.

Yeah, if it were a god’s plans, ostensibly I would know there’s a god and presumably an afterlife. So what would the big deal be?
Submit to God / Allah.

That is what a vile brahmin, Ajamila, did at the time of dying. He cried the name of his son which was "Narayana". Lord Vishnu heard it and thought that someone was calling him for help and came immediately. Seeing Lord Vishnu there, the messengers of death went back.

I am of skeptical. If there is an afterlife I’ll let my life speak for itself, I suppose.

Supposedly, I know when I'm going to die. I'll die in the year 2038.
I was told that in my late 20's.

Not sure if I believe the prediction or not.

In one sense, it was somewhat comforting to know I wouldn't die before then. With all of the uncertainties in the world, at least you know you won't make any decisions bad enough to cause your death before that. Also it has been too far in the future so far to think to change any behaviors to alter this.

Even if true, I've basically gone about life as if I wasn't told this. Maybe in 2037 I'll think about making some preparations.

I can see a benefit to knowing--mainly in financial decision making.

Let's say it's going to be sooner rather than later. I'm 66 now. If I knew my IRA didn't have to last another 25 years, and especially if I knew I wouldn't have to pay for a nursing home, that would make it easier to help kids and grandkids financially. Also, the Mister and I would take those trips we've talked about doing "someday" and probably at an upgraded level.

OTOH, if I'm going to live a very long time (my Dad is currently 97 ½) then we'd be more frugal about travel (still go, but less time, etc.) and make sure to sequester funds for assisted living or nursing care, etc.

it would be more emotionally difficult for the Mister or me to know we'd be widowed sooner rather than later. Though it would also mean we'd share all the things we love to do together (travel, concerts, visiting botanical gardens, dining out, etc.), make our time meaningful, and not take time for granted.

Isn't any prediction based on "as things stand now," subject to change based on actions we take? It doesn't seem realistic to think a 50-year-old can be told they will die at age 85, starting drinking a fifth of scotch a day, and live for 35 more years.

I'd love to! Enjoy the next reincarnated ride! But I won't know, naturally.

Can we alter the future?

Some think we can, some think we can't.
Truth is at this point, I don't even know what I ought to do to alter it.

Something I decided to do after hearing the information may be exactly what causes my death.

Maybe if we were told when and why.

Maybe it is better not to know. All though, good thing about it would be that I could plan my actions so that I could do things that I think are important before death. But, perhaps it is better to live so that one is ready to die at any moment.
