Kathryn
It was on fire when I laid down on it.
What's so great about your mom?
My mother is my hero. She was born into a desperately poor family, and lost her father when she was very small (he drowned in an accident). She grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks" (literally). In spite of her hard childhood, she determined to better her life, and off she went to college, where she met my father.
They built a good life and a happy family together, and have been married for 52 years. Life hasn't always been easy, but they've stuck together and are inseparable.
A few years ago, my mother the artist and avid reader had a severe stroke. It affected her optic nerve and she can no longer paint, and reading is very difficult. It also created a constant feeling of dizziness, which has limited her activities, though her mind and personality were not adversely affected.
She cannot see faces and watching TV is also difficult. She has 10 great grandchildren whose faces she has never seen.
Not once have I heard her complain. She will be the first to tell you that she is so happy to be alive and otherwise healthy, that she simply can't dwell on what she's lost.
In spite of her disabilities, she continues to push herself - she gets up, gets dressed, cleans her house, works in the yard, etc. Sometimes her shirt is on inside out, and her cooking is definitely hit or miss, and sometimes she falls when she's gardening, and she misses a lot when she's cleaning the house, but believe me - none of us are complaining.
We all know how blessed we are to have her in our lives.
Thank you, Mom, for your example of strength and a positive attitude!
My mother and me in 1964.
Please post a picture of your mom as well and share something special about her!
