Your Botanical Identity

Imagine that you are living in a utopian (or dystopian, depending on your point of view), agrarian society that follows old folkways, and everyone in that society is named for a flower, herb, or tree.

Choose your name from this linked list of botanical names.

Your name ideally has to begin with the same first letter as your screen name, but you can choose any flower, herb or tree that you want. The accompanying meaning of the flower, herb, or tree has to be something that is meaningful to you or describes you in some way.

I am Rosa Rugosa, with the meaning of "Simplicity."

Jade Geranium, I suppose.

Jade because I am often stuck playing a guardian's role, and I seem to be full of luck. (Both good and bad. :D)

Geranium has quite a few applicable meanings, both positive and negative.

However, Dandelion would fit best, as its bright and uplifting, yet still viewed as a nuisance. :D

LOL! I saw your Dandelion choice right before you deleted it, and I loved that! I've changed the "rules" for the game so anyone can choose any flower, herb, or tree that they want. :)

Iceland moss.. I don't know what that is, but the name has a ring to it. I'm not a total fount of health, but I really like whatever health I can attain

The wicker man.. I don't know if I'd classify it as horror movie, but I'm not exactly sure how it should be classified.

Congratulations!

I think the official genre is "folk horror." While only the ending was pretty horrific, I really like this movie because it seemed that an entire village was pranking a judgmental authority figure. :)

"Bouquet " sounds like a good name for a paradisical tree-lined town with each street named for a flower, herb, or tree.
I'd like to draw up such a blueprint.

I'd like to see that map! Streets (East/West) could be named for trees. Avenues (North/South) could be named for flowers. All in alphabetical order, of course, to make it easier to find your way around the town.

So... I'm kind of a botanist. And being a nerd botanist I can sort of just rattle off various botanical latin names and link it up the meanings and what it points to in the plants themselves sometimes. Nobody wants to get me started on a topic like this. Except maybe me.

SCROPHULARIACEAE!

Figwort! :)

Pleased to meet a "nerd botanist." I'm a nerd for botanical names. One of my treasured books is Oleg Polunin's Flowers of Europe because it contains an index of plant names in several languages. The index gives the Latin genus name Scrophularia, followed by Figwort and Betony (English), Scrofulaire (French), Braunwurz (German), and Scrofolaria (Italian).

I've also got eight different foreign language editions of Kate Greenaway's The Language of Flowers (as well as the English edition). How nerdy is that? :)

I say:
- has been useful in many areas in the past
- can relieve mild pain
- is mildly intoxicating
- banned almost everywhere
- disliked by many people because of ignorance
- may have a revival in the future
