Your Favorite Way to Enjoy Alcoholic Drinks?

When I'm having alcohol that's 15% or more, I like going slow and having a savory appetizer to break the taste, which I often find nauseating if not for the savory stuff.

My favorite way of drinking is to take small sips, never chug, and space out the sips so that I can feel the alcohol start to set in instead of drinking quickly and then waiting for it to start taking effect. This lets me build up a mood and feels so good when I'm with someone and we just relax and chat while in that state of mind.

What about you? What's your favorite way to enjoy drinks, especially "heavier" ones (which I define as having 15% or more alcohol, being the lightweight that I am :p)?

With...

Rum and coke...

Like I've just had 3 glasses of...

I like trying the different rum flavours.

How many glasses does it take until you start to feel it really set in? And do you have it with or without an appetizer?

Just until I'm pleasantly buzzed, if I do. :)

I prefer beer, cider, and rum. I do like mah mead, too, but that can get pricey! If I happen to get more than toasty, I like to just vibe out and listen to music if I'm by myself, though if I do happen to get drunk it's usually with friends. :D

My favorite way is to sip a few tumblers of bourbon on my back porch, either with company or alone. Doesn't matter.

Occasionally, I imbibe absinthe a similar way....silver spoon and all. :D

When in Rome we shall do as the Romans, when in Hell we do shots at the bar. (or so my friends' drinking anthem goes)

Otherwise, I just mix bourbon and coke.

Seriously, though:

When I'm drinking higher-proof alcohol, it's generally whisky neat (i.e. straight, no ice) or with a very small amount of water.

Typically, I'll only ever have one glass of whisky a night, and I'll sniff it and sip it over an hour or more... either on its own or with dinner (if dinner is something that complements the whisky).

Any tips on sipping it without becoming nauseous? I've tried, but every time it ends up giving me a stomachache. Not even mixing it with something else seems to help, so unless there's a way to have whiskey that I haven't figured out yet, it might be a drink of weakness for me. :D

If it's only whisky that does that to you, then it's not an alcohol allergy (which happens to some people).

My approach, which works well for me:

- don't drink on an empty stomach
- don't drink right before bed
- sip at it slowly. The advice I like is that you should sip whisky the same way you'd drink really hot coffee.
- don't drink too much at once. I don't think I've been drunk in almost a decade.

Things like Irish cream, margaritas, or long island teas are sipping.
Sometimes I like margaritas frozen, and I love a mudslide (with ice cream) every now and then.
Beer and wine coolers I just drink.
I just just have a drink or two and I'm well buzzed/mildy drunk.
