Beats me... I don't think "God" talks directly to people, but I think it very possible that spirits/guardians may talk to us (either in dreams or, if the conditions are right, when we are awake)... so if they are imparting God's knowledge/"will" to us, perhaps in an odd, roundabout way God IS talking to us... although I think in most cases we're either hearing our OWN minds, or if the thoughts really come from "elsewhere", then I suspect we're hearing a spirit/guardian whose different perspective of reality allows it to know more than us and it chooses to communicate with us for reasons of its own....and NOT hearing "God".

I don't believe god talks to us because god does not talk. However, Spirits can impart knowledge to us when awake and not. Whether that is gods knowledge or just there knowledge I am not sure. I do believe we can understand the Tao by clearing our own mind, and allowing ourselves to understand. After we clear it, enlightenment may come to us in any way shape or form. Most of the time its not in words though. Its a feeling you get that you cannot express in any other way than words.

I believe God literally talks to us, most (if not all) of the time. I've never heard the audible voice of God though.

In the old Jewish tradition (not sure about Judaism, etc), angels were believed to of given the Torah to moses, for much the same reasons given above. God Would often appear as the 'angel of the LORD', or communicate with the prophets as 'the word of the Lord'. to see the Lord face to face would mean destruction.

psychology calls those voices auditory halllucinations, theology calls those voices locutions. illicit drugs poison our minds and those voices one hears under the influence of those drugs come form the devil. when not under the influence of drugs, those voices could come from evil angels, good angels, people in hell, purgatory, earth or heaven and God.
we have the ability to think for ourselves by choosing what to dwell on. the more one rejects temptation to do evil the less one is tempted
