Is it about you?

Or something else?

ETA: Feel free to let us know, if you stated the latter, what that "something else" is.

Please see the ETA in the OP, and if you wish to add anything, feel free. No pressure or obligation. If your life is about bananas and you don't wish to share, no worries.

Sometimes my life is about bananas, but not usually. I don't use them for much other than puja. I did bake banana bread for the first time recently, though.

Life is about whatever presents itself; whatever the situation requires. Sometimes that's just paying attention. Sometimes it requires extensive action. Right now its about potatoes and monster trucks, but that will change soon enough.

It's about me. I can't help others if I'm on the ground suffering (blind heal the blind). Working together as a group of individuals to lift 'each' other up type of thing. I notice I'm more other focus when I have something personal to contribute whether it be a skill, charity, or so have you. My former friend commented why I do better volunteering to help others than to help others before oneself. Giving something of myself is more valuable to me. I think there's a difference between self-oriented and selfish though. Other centered as in humility, no. Service to others would be a closer word than humility and hierarchy, for lack of a better word tonight.

I have a couple extra bananas if you want some.

I hear this a lot(the whole "you can't help others if you can't help yourself" argument), but I've never found it true for myself. (I'm not arguing against you, @Unveiled Artist , your life is as you say it is, just discussing the sentiment.) And honestly, its kind of daunting. "You're no good to anyone until you're perfect" is what I hear. But so many flawed people have helped me, and I know I've helped folks when I was hardly functioning myself...

It seems some kind of a weird modern standard we've created for ourselves.

Sure. :) Stop by and we'll make another loaf of bread.

I think it's a culture thing really. It's highly associated with the US, but mostly refers to Western side of the world.

My former friend is a collectivist (sees community and family and herself as a cohesive unit) born here in America. So, she has the best of both worlds. However, because she is collectivist (from the Philippines) she saw Americans as uncaring and selfish. Here are some American stereotypes from a positive and negative light Stereotypes of Americans - Wikipedia.

Unfortunately, these stereotypes kind of bleed in how others see us when it comes to politics among other topics. I've never been out of the country before to compare. We have sub-cultures here that are noticeably different even in dialect, culture, and some word usage.

I forgot the milk. I got hooked on chocolate banana smoothies.

I think its cultural, too. It somewhat flabbergasts me that everyone assumes everyone has the same opportunity and resources for the somewhat extensive self care rituals we feel are 'normal' in the US.

I've got plenty of milk that needs to be used up...

The rest of the article (first link) is a give and take.

Yes. It bleeds into our politics. Since America is multicultural there is a clash in personal cultural views while maintaining societal cultural views (to those born and raised here but identify with their parent culture). That's why (in my opinion) you have so many different views on heated topics.

Skim or low fat?

Low fat, unless the kids have left some of their whole.

My life is all about RF.. no wait that's wrong, currently it's all about surviving to see my kids leave the nest.

It's about driving, it makes coping with the kids so much easier

Its about enjoyment of the world we live in

And yes, it is sometimes about bananas

You never really know what a story is about until you see how it ends.

Edit: in the meantime my life is about getting over myself.

Edit Edit: please don't ask me how that's going.
