Amidst a government shut-down, I think it's time we discuss this potential wall, and why it's such a good or bad idea.

...Do do you or do you not support a wall on the U.S. southern border? Please explain your reasons.

I think it is a wasteful move. I have seen no complete cost benefit analysis. I have seen no reason to believe that a wall is necessary let alone worth the price tag. I think that people are quick to jump on the bandwagon because illegals scary.

As per people dying by going into deserts a wall is required to funnel people away from an area(s) where their risk of death is high. This also lowers the costs of dealing with avoidable health issues. This has been a reason for a wall for decades before Trump.

I voted yes based on the above. If a yes vote is for Trump's specific plan pretend it is a no

Also, funneling people seems easier to catch them rather than having large gaping deserts hundreds of miles wide.

Billions of dollars, which will be paid largely by the middle class, to aggrandize one man's ego -- while he permanently cuts taxes on himself and members of his own class.

Aah, but isn't it true that the wall will benefit the middle class in the long run? Less kids dying of fentanyl and opioid overdoses. Less cocaine. Less poverty. Less prison population... These things benefit Americans.

Sure...sure...it's going to stop all that for sure.

Not to change the subject, but did you know the moon landings were a hoax, the pyramids were built by aliens, and evolution is only a theory?

Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

It would take only 118 pounds of fentanyl to kill 25 million people

That’s how much of the powerful opioid painkiller Nebraska State Trooper Sam Mortensen found in April when he stopped a truck marked “U.S. Mail” swerving onto the shoulder along Interstate 80."

From what I have read the upper class pays about 50% of all US income tax revenue. Toss in the upper class is a minority

Even the border patrol commissioner has stated that the money would be better spent on more personnel and better technology, so I voted "no" on the wall even though in some locations it's likely appropriate.

Let's face reality in that the only reason why Trump is playing hardball with this is because of his campaign promise on building the wall, but then we shouldn't take that too seriously as he also repeatedly claimed that Mexico would pay for it.

IOW, it all about him.

Excellent.

If we are to use the economically conservative model here, then generate the money first and then we can discuss where you want to spend it. Return the capital gains taxes and upper income taxes to levels seen in the 1950’s and 60’s, which will instantly fill the US warchests with billions upon billions of dollars, and then use your newly overflowing coffers to put up a right fine wall, and fix the roads, and airports, and railways, and docks, and schools, and healthcare system, and.....
But stop dancing around the fact that if you want something new and/or improved, then you have to return taxes on the richy riches back to where they used to be.

Yes. Unfortunately they own more than 85% of everything. So the only “minority” they are part of is the tax-dodging scum. The Takers, not the Makers.

Catching people is a different problem than what I was addressing. I was pointing out a wall can hinder the ability for people to enact their stupid choices. A lot of people that have illegal status is due to skipping out on their visa along with state/city governments refusal to cooperate with open violations.

Again from what I read the rich still pay more taxes than the middle class as a group and individual levels.

If the tax dodge is legal are they only scum because they did something you wouldn't?
