what do you think of a woman who smacks her oldest son for swearing in front of the baby, and tells him stop swearing in front of the "*******" baby. Isn't she a big hypocrite, since she swore too?

Yes, clearly.

Sounds like my mother :D.

She has quite the Potty Mouth :p. I find it highly bizarre parents do this and cannot refrain from cursing even when angry. Lots of people get angry but not everyone curses when angry or frustrated, well at least I don't

Well, I curse when I am angry. But I wouldn't punish my kid for cursing, because that would make me a hypocrite. However, even when I am angry, I don't go around calling babies "*******" like that woman.

How are they all hypocrites exactly? There are some decent people.

Heh... that's not quite what I mean.

What I mean to convey is that there is not a single human who 100% lives up to their own standards and values. We all behave in ways that are contrary to what we say, not just because we err, but because we're always growing and changing our behaviors and values. I don't see hypocrisy as a negative attribute, I see it as a fundamental and beautiful part of being human. I'll grant "hypocrisy" usually has a negative, snarl-word connotation in our language, but there's not one person who doesn't say one thing and do another on a regular basis.

We all make mistakes. I think we can all act hypocritically at times- acting like a hypocrite doesn't necessarily make you one. :)

(My stepfather cussed so much when I was a child that I don't even get offended hearing expletives!)

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
