Lawmakers call YouTube Kids a 'wasteland of vapid' content

House Subcommittee is investigating Google-Youtube's Kids content, and find it a wasteland of consumerist advertising targeting children.

Should this sort of advertising be allowed? Is it any different then what is advertised on Cable networks?
It should be monitored like how tv does when it comes to kid advertisement. I don't know how youtube does it but tv has a lot of rules regarding it.

YouTube advertising is usually a bit more insidious in that it is literally tailored to the user based on their internet (read Google) history. With kids the rules/algorithm might be different, I don’t know. But it should be thoroughly examined all the same, imo
And parents should invest in adblocker

I don't know about Cable networks, but I do recall that children's television programming took a significant hit when the US federal government started regulating what was, at the time, near endless runs of, essentially, 25-minute toy commercials.

Youtube's approach to regulation has always been "we let our robots take care of the problem" and this has been widely called out as arbitrary, insufficient, and utter nonsense, especially but not solely with regards to their ostensibly "kid-friendly" content. And I don't see this ever working either way - Youtube is a profit-making enterprise, not a neutral arbiter of content, so they will always prioritize their profits over any amount of decency, as long as they remain within the boundaries of legality within the US.

Is this why any talk of disability issues and lgbt issues immediately gets demontiezed?

A "wasteland of vapid content." That could apply to just about everything - the internet, YouTube, broadcast/cable networks, radio, films.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Seems you tube is privately owned and not subject to what ads they want to put in.

Isn't that the argument?

Weither its censorship or advertising its privately owned.

IF the goal is to brainwash (with dirt instead of soap) children THEN they should allow it

IF the goal is to create Peace on earth THEN they better protect their children from ads

Note: Excessive desires leads to destruction not to happiness

One reason they changed laws regarding adds on tv is cuz kids can't tell reality from fiction very well. I remember as a little kid not knowing stuff on tv was fictional. I would often try to do stuff from tv not knowing most of it is fictional. Like once I crushed a lucky charms marshmallow thinking a rainbow would pop out. Stupid stuff like that. I wasn't a bright kid but mixing up reality with fiction as children is normal. There are numerous studies on it.
