Question about "deities" that come to us in our dreams.

Spirit of Light

Sometimes we can experience that we are "visited" by a deity or some religious figure that are close to our belief when we dream.
My question is.

1: How can we be sure this visit is the real deal, and not an imposter (demon) that trying to confuse us to believe we are special and get visits from the Deity we believe in? And it leading us in to a false path and away from our religious cultivation.

2: Have you experienced this you self? What does the religioues/spiritual teaching you follow say about this topic?

I have never in my life experienced this.

I don't recall having been visited by a deity in a dream or in waking consciousness. If I was, they didn't leave an impression. However, there have been some pretty hot women in my dreams that made me feel special. :D

My path teaches that anything experienced in dream reality or relative reality is an appearance, and that only Brahman is real.

Experience a visitation in a dream? Ahhh, ... you mean "Sometimes we dream that we are visited by a deity or some religious person".
Have you experienced this you self?
In my memory? Never.

Dreams are the least reliable source of divine information. However, they can be (in my understanding and opinion) profound sources of information about ourselves: i.e. issues/problems that are troubling us.

There's yet another alternative that has to be ruled out - what if the dream is simply...a dream? A product of your mind/brain?

Yes this is true too :)
Personally I do not hold the belief that a deity come to us in our dreams. But a demon could do that dressed as a deity, in my understanding

I will be deadly honest. Deity and demon visitations sounds like fiction. It reminds me of Star Trek or Devil's Advocate or some movie similar. Maybe deity and demon are anthropomorphized icons (or scapegoats?) for the unexplained mysterious good or bad emotions people experience in relationship to their spiritual beliefs. I would assume those same experiences for someone without those spiritual beliefs would see them as natural results of the human mind, body, and psyche. If they were actually real, it would not depend on the person's belief system to exist. For example, regardless how we describe pain from a stubbed toe, it's still the same thing-the experience of pain. How we define it and language of attribution doesn't change that we all experience the same thing. But deities and demons aren't like that. If we experienced demons and deities, it wouldn't matter what one's spiritual belief is.

So, I can kinda understand why people need to put names to their spiritual emotions; and, honestly, I just find it kinda strange and very mythological to use deities, demons, (angels, and?) to do so.

I dreamed a baboon came in through the window, snatched my pillow and pooed in my shoe.

...luckily I had two pillows, but I had to throw the shoes out the next day.

It's a dream, so of COURSE I don't consider for even a split second that it might be the 'real deal'. Just like when I dream about Santa Claus I don't wonder if maybe the REAL Santa Claus is trying to communicate with me.

1) It would be lucid and clear, not subconscious and confused.

2) I don't know.

I have followed Gandhi's teaching on this for decades now, and it opened so many doors for me. Basically, here's what it is in a nutshell.

He said he never heard God's voice but believes that God "speaks" to us through repeated strong feelings that we should do or not do X. However, we gotta make sure that X is moral to begin with or he felt it might come from another source.

Then, he said if we just it to be moral ["do no harm"], and it keeps on getting repeated, then do it and not make excuses not to.

With me, I can tell ya one story after another as to where that led me. But I gotta give credit to where credit's due: Gandhi. Or was it Who I call "the Boss"?

So he visits you, too?

Must be a Vedanta thing...
