Fantasy is my favorite genre, because most other genres are so mundane that I feel like I can't relate to them. With fantasy, an author gets to think outside of the box and play god by creating new worlds.
I'm reading a variety of stuff, mainly because I'm not a good writer and I want to read a variety of different narrative modes, characters, styles, grammar usages, etc. So I got a box of fantasy books from my friend to look through, and I've specifically been picking out opposites.
So the first book was some big ugly dude that hacks and slashes his way through a run-down medieval world. The second is about a masochistic prostitute spy in a lovely beautiful world that uses her talents and job to spy on royals and untangle complex political ambitions. The third one I'm going to read is about con men in a fantasy world.
Maybe at some point I can send you a PM with some of my plot ideas.
