  • It irks me that the common dogma is that Buddhism is atheistic and even non-theistic. It's not either... it's quite deistic. Consider dharmakaya.
Haha, it seems that great minds think alike. The fruballs I threw at you did not go to waste, I see!
Of course it doesn't XD that that is precisely why it is my profile picture. Scarily enough, it represents me rather well.
look, a little bitty snack.. you know, i hack up much bigger ones occasionally, but they don't have that pretty color thing going on. so thanks.
"SO you mean to tell me "most" creatures do not seek to live or survive in any shape or form?"

Most creatures are very simple, brainless affairs. The vast majority in fact are bacteria, microbes, viruses and plants. As far as we know, they don't even have a 'mentality'.

As for other more complex creatures, such as animals and insects, there is no evidence that they are aware of their mortality. Their 'survival-oriented' behaviors are the result of natural selection, not an intention.

If there was a 'being' of the metaphysical kind, it would not 'want to survive' either - why would it, if it were metaphysical, and thus not subject to a final death ?

If humans were indeed 'souls', they would be utterly fearless. They are fearful because they know they are going to die. We have no reason to believe that other creatures know that.

They may, but we have no reason to believe they do.

Then again, I am most likely totally wrong about everything.
Pfffft. That won't help. Naykid is a member of the Shaolin Monkeys, masters of the deadly art of. . . FLUNG POO!!
"Survivalism is an inherent mentality found in the vast majority of living creatures."
    - Shaykh Sha'ir Malik Kabir Abdulrabb

Actually this is not true. The fact that evolution enhances the overall survival 'odds' of a species is an accident, not an inherent 'ism'. 'Survivalism' implies an intention, or some sort of noetic act, where in fact evolution is the function of mutation and its *unintended* reproductive advantage. Suggesting that reproductive advantage was an intention is the very foundation of the hallucinated 'ghost in the machine'.

Just so you know who is commenting on your very interesting blog. ;)

uh oh, now you did it. You don't want to know what he shoots out of that slingshot.

Give you hint though: they're small, and round, and brown, and "SPLYYYMTPHHHH!!!" when they hit something.
(psst, Sterling, you need to say something nice about the monkey too or he'll be whining at me all day)
