Where do you get this part from? I have studied the Bible (in many translations) for quite some time and I have yet to find a single verse that states this. The closest thing I can find is Revelation 12:4.
And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth...
For those talking about Satan having free will, or that he causes bad things or what not...
I do not believe in Satan as the devil. I do not believe in demons. I study Hebrew and Greek and my understanding is that the term satan is a Hebrew term, and it is always presented with the definitive...
I grew up as a Southern Baptist. I was "saved" at the age of 12 and baptised. Fast forward 25+ years and my beliefs have changed because of tough questions that I could never answer with traditional Christianity. Maybe someone else can take a shot at them...
1. Why was Jesus crucified on the...
Because so many people have so many different beliefs. They start off going to a church growing up, get to where they don't like that old church as an adult, and they form their own church and do things their way.
I'm not. I just don't get bogged down in all the supernatural mysticism that surrounds Christianity.
My belief in God includes Him being omnipotent. If there truly was a Satan as the devil, or demons, He could simply uncreate them, if He so desired.
Stopping here, because this forum is not...
I agree that devil does not mean illness. What does that have to do with my previous posts?
The demons you refer to are nothing more than diseases or afflictions that ancient man did not understand. An example would be this verse:
Matthew 17:15
KJV - Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is...
This needs clarification...
Rev 12:4 says nothing about angels being cast anywhere. The Greek term for heaven in this verse actually means cosmos. Literally, the verse is saying that the serpent's tail swept 1/3 of the stars out of the cosmos and down to earth...which we know is impossible...
I do not believe in either Satan as the devil, or demons. Yes, I am a Christian, with Southern Baptist roots.
For starters, Satan is a Hebrew term, and it means Adversary or Acuser, depending on its context. Everywhere in the OT that the Hebrew uses Satan, it is actually ha-satan. Ha in Hebrew...
Been doing some research. It seems liberal Christianity, Non-denominational and Christian Deism are all pretty similar. Same flavor ice cream with different sprinkles!
In reading of the various books/scrolls that make up the Tanakh, I am trying to honestly reconcile something...
1 Kings 9:4-7
4 As for you, if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will...
For me this is easy...
I do not believe that Adam and Eve were the first humans. Genesis 1 talks about the human race being created, and they are told to multiply. For all we know, thousands upon thousands of people could have been created all over the world during Genesis 1.
Adam and Eve...
I grew up as a Southern Baptist, but am now more of a Deist with Christian roots.
I have been away for over a year and things have changed in my life. While I have gained in knowledge about world religions as well as ancient history, it only served to confuse me even more. I feel I am too...
I have not posted here in a long time. Much has changed in my life in the past year.
I grew up as a Christian in a Southern Baptist church, and like many people, that is because I went where my parents went. However, I now identify more easily with deism. I have so many questions and doubts. I...
I prefer the NASB as my go to Bible.
I also study from the NRSV, ESV, HCSB, YLT and will even see what the KJV says from time to time (though I am of the belief that it is not as accurate as the NASB).
Note: I searched the forums first, but did not find this topic. It is 7 years old, but news to me. I usually do not keep up with Judaism or Israel.
I recently came across an article about an Orthodox Jewish rabbi who supposedly lived to be 100+ years, was considered one of the most revered...
That's all fine and well, but it wasn't me saying those things, it was ideas and talking points from various articles, authors, etc. I even stated I know very little about Egyptology in another thread. Furthermore, if someone has something to actually offer on the thread, I will listen. By the...
