As far as I can remember All Saints Day is Nov 1st and honors all the saints and All Souls Day is the day after and commemorates all the faithful souls. But that's only a vague recollection, so take it for what it's worth. ;)
Great! But I'm afraid your one example hardly negates my point.
Karate is called a discipline. You do not need to have punishment to have discipline.
The phrases self-discipline and self-punishment have very different meanings. There is a reason for that.
Actually yes it does.
No I...
I had an experience similar to 9-10ths_Penguin. We were vacationing at a lake and we saw something zig-zag across the sky. It was moving so fast it was leaving a light trail behind it.
I don't know what it was, but I haven't seen anything like it since.
I finally have some time so I'm going to be as clear as I can about this without arguing a particular point. Warning: This is going to be long.

For arguments sake, let us say I had the definitive answer to this question. I know that's impossible, but...
Hmm....you'd be right if I expected other people to just know what I meant. Since I assume they won't, knowing this is a radical idea, I don't think the communication breaks down.
I could respond with yet another contradiction, but I don't see the point. We have to very different opinions on...
I just joined a few days ago and I haven't seen all that much of what you're talking about yet. Oh there has been some pouncing on me and my ideas, but it hasn't been all that bad. There has also been some support from others so I think it evens out.
I imagine once I've been here for some time...
The point is that punishment and vengeance are always the same thing. Punishment by its very nature is vengeful. Consequences for actions are not always punishments and I think that's where we differ here.
How is an educational class a punishment? Being made to go somewhere and learn better...
