My certainty would be based on objectively demonstrable evidence…I drive by it everyday, I shop in it regularly, others I know “run down to the store” and return with goods from the store often and repeatedly.
The fact I’m certain of it doesn’t mean that it will last into perpetuity, everything...
As I said:
Do you have any objectively demonstrable evidence to the contrary?
I’d be happy to take it into consideration if you could provide some.
Until then……
Probably because I am not agnostic on the question of the existence of Kazakhstan or my local grocery store….their existence is falsifiable and objectively demonstrable.
As result I am gnostic on their existence.
I believe they exist and I’m certain of it.
On the question of leprechauns… I’m...
This is an excellent question for anyone who is truly convinced of an “afterlife”; particularly one where a “paradise” awaits them.
For the rationally minded, it tends to be (beyond the natural will to survive) the fact that as best as can be determined, this is the one and only life we have to...
In order to answer the question pertaining to the specific incident which inspired your question, one would need to know the context.
Were it in a “debate” thread, it may have a different context than a “interfaith discussion” thread, or a “Q&A” thread etc.
In the english language, many words...
It appears J. Laurence Kulp was fighting an uphill battle within the ASA in an attempt to keep them at least honest about the established science rather than dishonestly portraying it in defense of flood geology.
I fear he lost out to the, if not consciously dishonest, at minimum blindly zealous...
Give me a quote were this is the case.
I explained in post #120;
Again, read very carefully…….all the words…..
Is this what you really meant to say?
Are you suggesting that learning how something begins (comes into existence) is not a part of how it works?
Isn’t how it is potentially formed...
No, I know it is biased because it is a religious organization that has a preconceived, stated declaration that God is the basis for science:
“3. We believe that in creating and preserving the universe God has endowed it with contingent order and intelligibility, the basis of scientific...
I was pointing out what you and apparently
Sye Garte are mystified about:
To wit I explained:
After ignoring my request for a description of the bias you perceive atheists are harboring;
Which you have yet to answer…..
You retort with
Along with;
Perhaps if you show me the evidence?
I’m...
You obviously have an enormous lack of reading comprehension.
Sigh……..Do try to keep up!
Once again:
Read very carefully…..all the words……
Who am I saying has a cognitive bias?
My original posting about the ASA being a religious organization with obvious biases was
post #58
True….. you did...
I wouldn’t say I taught my kid (along with nieces that were slightly older) to believe in Santa, but I did play along and encourage it.
Magical thinking in children is a natural, unavoidable and essential stage of cognitive development.
As they age, they (usually) gain cognitive skills and...
I’ve never heard a “pro-life” advocate describe an abortion as an “accidental death”.
If a raped woman becomes pregnant as result of that rape……how would having an abortion be described as “self defense”?
My how cheeky we are!
Maybe get hold of a dictionary and look up the word “virtually”……
Once you understand the definition; give it another try, this time attempt some reading comprehension, eh….
Then get back with me if you’re still having problems understanding.
Are you suggesting that a large percentage of women actively seeking and thereby choosing to become pregnant upon becoming pregnant consequently consider aborting that pregnancy?
Is lying all the time wrong?
I would agree with you that there are instances (I would go so far as to say many) where lying is not wrong.
Unfortunately, this is another strawman and a false equivalency.
Unfortunately logic and rational reasoning does work this way.
When it is so easy to...
Not sure where you are getting this……another strawman or misconstruing of actual points?
Science is a method of gaining knowledge about the way things work by eliminating biases and seeking objective, demonstrable, repeatable, testable evidence to support hypothesis that explain it.
God doesn’t...
Yes as you admit, it is a religious organization.
As far as discrediting them…..they did it themselves in the scientific world.
However within the religious realm, you apear to credit them nonetheless.
We both agree that actual science doesn’t align itself with any particular religious...
