Last Sunday, I was talking to a few of my friends, and mentioned stuff that happened over a previous Columbus Day Weekend. Someone "corrected" me, saying it is "Indigenous Persons Day." I snapped at him, saying, "I am sick and tired of being told we're bad people, that we don't belong here." I...
There are a few problems. The biggest one is that no one has any idea if "mitigation" will do anything at all. This is about control, not the environment. How do you know that if we take lemming-like measures it will accomplish anything?
Extra extra read all about it. It rained in New York City. Fear-mongering about storms, in today's New York Times (Link), excerpt:
I consider this media-driven panic. In 1972, same story, more devastation, no media panic. From June 20, 1972 New York Times (link), and June 24, 1972 (link)...
I wish that were true. Unfortunately I represented a "recycling company" during the early 2000's, for about eight years. Very few "recycled" items are re-used. Almost all of them go into landfill or are incinerated. There's really not much of an end-user taker. It's mostly a "feel-good" action...
In 1975 I worked for a week as temporary Christmas help at Macy's in White Plains. One snowy night I was threatened by someone. I gave the thug $10 out of my wallet and reported the incident. Rather than walky-talky the door guards, I was fired.
If someone gets an entry level job they make maybe $15 an hour. A one-minute shoplift can net $300 easy. That's 20 hours of honest work. The penalty used to be jail or a criminal record. Now it's a 20 minute booking and release.
Shoplifting should be a hazardous occupation. No one promised that the worst that would happen would be a lecture from a liberal judge and non-adversarial prosecutor.

One would expect business interests to fight back. Why are they hanging back? Don't they depend upon the rule of law for their existence? There was no resistance to "bail...
During the 1997-8 Niño episode some "scientists" were blaming El Niño on human activities. What climate alarmist creates is an ability to grab larges amounts of cash to spend without any accountability. Who knows, if 2037 is relatively quiet, if the spendapalooza did any good?

True, the British would have had to have eyes on the back of their heads to trust him. But still his disloyalty was well-earned by the Continental Congress. He laid out his own money to fund his troops and they were not grateful
The Vietnam War was not on many radars at that point, and Kennedy was against the war, in my opinion, only in the sepia-tone imaginations of people who idealize Camelot. I think he would have been better than Johnson at explaining the need for intervention.
I think what got Kennedy in trouble...
All of us, as schoolchildren, learned about Benedict Arnold. We learned that he was a traitor. See recent article,A Traitor, Burned in Effigy, Again and Again
What we were not taught was his pre-treason, heroic aspect. One thing to remember was that the U.S. was not a country, but an idea, or...
