I am no longer a Sikh

I suppose so. Which is why I'm not identifying with the community anymore, but rather quite content going my own way about it. Other Sikhs say that makes me a 'manmukh' or self-oriented, but I'm too sure about the alternative. I'd need to see the thread to explain why I used that term...

I am no longer a Sikh

However, SGGS Ji is not supposed to be a idol. It makes no sense to idolize a scripture which itself preaches against idol worship. But I suppose it's easier for some to worship the book as an idol than it is to learn the poetry and live according to what is taught therein.

The halal rort on Australians: paying an Islamic religious food tax without knowing

I dunno if Marmite is 'stronger'. They all seem about the same to me. Marmite is sweeter than Vegemite. Promite sweeter still. They are all black and disgusting looking deliciousnesses. <3

I am no longer a Sikh

The part that I struggle with most is that Sikhi places a lot of emphasis in spending time with learned people, and worshipping together, but to be on the outside of that sometimes makes me feel resentful, like I can't go forwards in Sikhi because I can't have that sangat. Actually I caught a...

What Happened to Make the RF Server Crash?

Unless you lack the devotion this fine forum inspires in normal people, you would be aware that the RF site was offline for a good chunk of last weekend. To get to the bottom of this problem, I think we should all speculate as to the cause. Even if we are incorrect, it will be a good exercise...

Karma across lifetimes - victim blaming?

Who is Eknath? I am unfamiliar with that name and have not seen shabads by that author in SGGSJ. Also, Sikhi was never 'part of Hinduism'. It is unique. Sikhi places the focus squarely on this life right here and now and doesn't say much about karma. It simply says you will harvest what you...

    Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism

LOL Booko posted that 9 years ago. You've created a zombie thread. Congratulations. :P It may not be entirely accurate to say that Sikhi is what happens when Islam collides with Hinduism. Sikhi has much more in common with Hinduism than Islam. However, it is squarely its own philosophy.

    Seekers Unite! :)

Dear Seeker, You sing the song of the eternal seeker; the free thinker with faith, who sees the inconsistent and the beautiful in each religion, can accept no one religion because of its inconsistencies yet can accept the beauty in each, which leaves you as an anomaly with no real place to fit...

If you have to choose between two types of women (rebellion vs obedience)

@Godobeyer Thank you for staying engaged in your thread. :) Just wanted to let you know it's good to talk these things through. I have another question for you, using your definition of rebellion: Do you think a woman is naturally inclined to cheat on you and be rebellious, which is why you...

If you have to choose between two types of women (rebellion vs obedience)

My ex-husband was the controlling type of man, and I fell into an obedient woman role. He would get angry if I went out with my friends (even female friends) and assumed I flirted with men and would leave him for someone else. It did not take long before I started to resent him. I couldn't go...

Recommend some meditation practices for a noob

You can try the Headspace app. I hear it's very good. I have it installed but haven't tried it yet. The creator is Zen oriented, I believe. Sikhs often use chanting meditation - where you pick a word and repeat it. At first you can say it out loud, then just in your mind. I've tried this...
