Vannakkam JayaBholenath,
That must be such a beautiful site to see! I am very happy to hear it is happening elsewhere as well.
I like why you said as well about going to hell. I highly doubt Bhagavan is upset by women fulfilling spiritual rights and remembering him eternally :)
Aum Hari...
Hi Fireside,
Yes it is now being given to some ladies. There is a school in Varanasi that awards it. They make women priests. There are some instances of it in the US as well.
Aum Hari Aum!
How is it that women were fit to be rishis (rishika) and bring the light of the Vedas to the world but they are not fit to hear the vedas or participate in vedic rites?
I completely agree Vinayaka. I think universalism is just as dangerous. It dilutes the tradition. Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya has contributed a crucial work on the dangers of radical universalism.
Yoga, kundalini, and mantra stripped of its meaning and emotion and fed to the masses for...
Vannakkam Everyone,
Thank you for your words of encouragement and kindly sharing your stories. While I was very upset at first and a bit surprised now I'm thinking this is an unfortunate knee jerk reaction to the actions of non Hindus in India as well as old caste mentalities.
Funny thing...
Thank you and this is so very true ShivaFan. The question is then how can we overcome these limiting views. It isn't completely on the Indian side either, I have heard westerners denigrate different Hindu traditions as being inferior which is just as bad. I wonder can we do things to bridge...
Namaskar,
As some of you know I spend most of my young life Buddhist before switching teams :p lol. One of things I had a big problem with in Buddhist circles was the unconscious segregation that is occurring in the US. This was related to Asian Buddhists keeping closed circles and having...
As others have said, I believe too they should be kept separate. Both are unique spiritual paths with their own dharma. Why mix them? The mixing of the two means the loss of spiritual authority in each tradition. It can also create great confusion. I do think a Hindu can respect Jesus and a...

It chose me
It connects me to something greater than me. Each day is an opportunity to strengthen my relationship with Sriman Narayan so that I may one day take my right place. Until then it brings me happiness and makes me feel...
I wear the kalava (red/yellow). I tie it on my left wrist (unmarried woman) when I do a puja. As for differences in colors, I really have no idea. I thought everyone tied a red thread.
Learned something new today :)
Aum Hari Aum!
Hi Guys,
What a lovely ashram! I'm Andal, I've been here for years and years (although under an other name) After a lovely puja for Sri Sri Lakshmi Narayana upstairs- time for some chai and snacks downstairs :) In the material world I am a coaching and communication skills trainer which I...
In regards to the original post...
perhaps i'm not the best hindu (in fact i know i'm not anywhere close given the number of rules i don't keep)
what makes me a Hindu is my absolute love and trust in Sri Hari and the acceptance that the Lord revealed his wisdom in the Vedas. Beyond...
Vanakkam Ratikala,
What a wonderful thread! Kirtan is on of my favorite ways of connected with the Lord (puja is the other). Here are couple of my favorites.
This first one has a special place in my heart as it was the first time I was really introduced to Krishna and it moved me so much...
As a western academic by training, Doniger, Kripal, and Sharma are given very little attention at the graduate level. In fact the only time I came across her and her followers was when a professor refuted her in a class about Shakti centric Hinduism.
It's important not only for Hindus to...
My grad degree is in Religion (Religious Studies) Theology is the study of God, the Gods, Goddess, etc internally. So a Hindu learning about God or Goddess is studying Theology. The word itself comes from Greek and was originally used to refer to Christian theology. Today however it...
