In Sikhi, the word "hukam" is used extensively. I am trying to learn more about what Guru Nanak, circa 1500 AD, may have understood this term to mean.
According to Wikipedia, "hukam" is derived from from the Arabic 'hukm'.
Is this word (or a similar transliteration of it) used in...

When I was a Pagan I had a notebook where I would copy out things I found. Towards the end I started writing my own stuff in. It's also overflowing with loose leaf pages I found, printed, copied, etc. and shoved in there. It's great fun to look back over now.
I'm still not seeing it specified. The Quran is clear on most things; and a woman's right to initiate divorce doesn't appear to be one of them.
Yet I still credit the Quran with at least allowing divorce and remarriage.
Omg, just saw it in the chat room! A little bit of sick came up in my mouth :S
It is so easy to manage these extensions with Tampermonkey. I installed the RF Dirty Fixes script when Infi first published it, and just went to update it. So easy!

Sikhs in the UK protest over mixed marriages
I've been to a couple of mixed faith weddings in the Gurdwara. It's funny to watch non-Indian non-Sikhs trying to sit on the floor in dresses because no one told them what to wear...
From searching the word 'divorce' in the Quran, there is nothing addressing women directly that they may divorce a man. The Quran addresses men only, regarding divorcing their women.
Insofar as men may divorce their women, does seem fair in it's description, that a man should divorce his woman...
I've seen people motivated by the state of the world they will leave for future generations / their children / their children's children, and people demotivated by thinking they'll have another chance in the next life. I haven't met anyone yet who wants to preserve the future for their future...
Okay, great, I think I have a bit more understanding of what you're trying to describe now.
However, I would be more inclined to say it is 'God' who is re/incarnating, and not an individual. The term "individual" is what skews the image, I think, and when people think about reincarnation they...
Ideogenous_mover, when most people think about 'reincarnation', they think about an individual who dies, and then they take life in another body until they die again, and so on. Are you actually saying that, rather than an individual living and dying and moving to another life, that something...

I'm interested to hear from people who work in, run or maybe even own an abattoir.
I would like to learn more about abattoirs, how they operate generally, what staff members perceptions are about animal welfare therein, and what improvements you think could be made to make increase the...
Opportunity, or are we just forced into the workforce to double the nations productivity?
I wouldn't be able to become a mother any time in the recent past, or the near future, because we simply cannot afford it.
And those women who do choose to become mothers in our Western culture often have...
