@Gargovic Malkav, your post resonates with me on a very different level.
“There is no “outside my own religion”.”
This right here….fact.
The part I bolded in particular is a mirror that reflects my own soul. *sheds tear*
I see! We all surf on different waves, Aup. That is to say belief in God or gods or the soul is not going to make sense to every person, so each of us finds Truth and Wisdom in a different form.
Everything you say is true, @Brickjectivity. I’m awed at your broad-mindedness and patience. I know that I’m in the same boat. One of the books that first cracked my skull (so to speak) was Huston Smith’s book on The World’s Religions. Have you read it?
This is all very beautiful, @sun rise. Tell me more about the Baal Shem Tov! I know only a little bit about him, namely that he started the Hasidic movement.
Blessed greetings.
In my twenty-five years of life on Earth (seven of these so far spent as a Bahá’í), I’ve had the blessing of meeting and befriending people from a variety of different cultures and religious backgrounds, as well as doing some rather voracious reading and exploring. I...
I was brought up a non-denominational Christian, which was a fine thing. Very beautiful. Then, from my World Cultures class in sixth grade, I was introduced to all different kinds of religions. I grew especially fond of Hinduism and Islam. I was enthusiastic! Fast forward a bit to early high...
I would fully agree with you, dude. Different religions and philosophies can give us different perspectives on Reality. And, indeed, they are all worth cherishing.
The way I look at it, different religions are like different subjects in school. You’ve got your Art, your Music, Phys Ed, your...
For me, it was a few different things that brought me initially to – and brings back to – my path as a Stoic: my very introspective nature, from which was born my love of philosophy and religion; my ceaselessly obsessive love of classical and post-classical history; and an unshakable sense of...
*sighs* Where do I start with this one?
From the bolded: These things you mention, and things much, much worse occurred in cultures that predate the advent of the Abrahamic religions.
From the blue: I can tell one thing for certain: this person’s knowledge of the “Abrahamic religions” is...
