Question for atheists...Do you feel baffled by the religious viewpoint?

It doesn't take hard work. It's rather easy. So I share your concern. However, it is not the individual that I denigrate but the irrationality. It's much the same as those poor Republicans. What really irks me is the dogmatic intrusion into a secular society.

    Answering Advocates of Gay Marriage

The marriage question is not the point of any, less they be theocratic in leaning. Marriage always has been a civil, secular matter in this country even from the times of the Puritans. The point is that "marriage" is a Christian cover for the exercise of castigating the "abominable". The...

So I just started reading The God Delusion..

I'm afraid there is nothing new in The God Delusion nor in Harris's books. That same arguments have been around for centuries, The difference is that they are said in different ways. In reading Dawkins I recognize the same arguments I use or understand. Dawkins however writes in a nicer modern...

    An alternative to anti-Mormon protests

LDS takes a share of the blame. It was the huge amount of money they invested in successfully passing Prop 8. It was divisiveness in the beginning that brought us to to todays fight for rights. Sadly I don't remember the name of the nightclub police raided time and time again. That brought...

Gay advocates protest marriage ban across nation

Change just may come from an activist clergy who believe in Christ's love as a guiding concern, Paul not withstanding. The days of the Old Testament have come to end in many of the human injustices it promoted. This must be another one.

Redefining religion for our modern world: Can we find a balance

I doubt it. Social alliances are made when acting on a belief. For example, the belief of LDS is considered cultish and wrong by fundimentalists but LDS support is appreciated in social actions, i.e., anti same-sex marriage.

What rights do religions have from the state?

It is concerned with the money the organization raises in order to operate.

California's same-sex marriage case affects all of us

Not having worse conditions does not make the conditions you have justified. An equal, humane condition for all is the only justification.

And thus the punishment comes when the state does not "reward" as it does for your marriage

    An alternative to anti-Mormon protests

Democracy has the burden of protecting the rights of minorities. It can not do so with just a vote. It must have judges of what is a right. We have more! The Mayflower Compact would be stupefying today and your particular religious practice may just well be "voted" out of existence.

California's same-sex marriage case affects all of us

Why is that? Are there not committed same-sex relationships where you live?

    Good Girl / Bad Girl

I'm not sure. I've known some "bad" girls who were very good and "good" girls who were very bad. That's not confined to sex!

California's same-sex marriage case affects all of us

The question can not be answered until a perspective is established. Same-sex married people have the same "pros and cons" as any other couple with the added "con" of being considered inferior by those who oppose it and thus degrading marriage in general. "Marriage" is just the "flag" that is...

    Gay Radicals Disrupt/Protest Worship Services

Quite an action from a loving Christianity. Whatever happened to "turn the other cheek"? Ah it was freedom of worship not freedom of speech. It was in response to the massive monetary investment LDS made in defying freedom of worship. Good Christians were married and want to marry in...

    Why capitalize improperly?

I believe you are right. I frequently do not capitalize "God". It seems as silly as naming a human "Human".

Not much to tell except that I lost interest after I was fired from my admin position. At one time, for almost a month when Rex was selling the forum, I was the only active admin. Maize (Amy) was still a member but, due to personal reasons, was not participating in her admin stuff. I convinced...
