I know, and for my part- I'm so ashamed.
I have no idea what I can do about it. I voted, which was all I could do besides protest. I do that too, but it doesn't effect much when the other side won't listen to any perspective beside their own.
I wouldn't hold my breath. It's really teeing me off though the way many leaders and lawmakers in Pennsylvania are approaching this subject. They're poking fun at the kids in addition to not doing anything to help.
Almost like teasing them, or trying to somehow make it their problem to solve...
We need more liberal justices on the Court to be assured of that, but I believe the current dynamic could still produce a favorable result. The court dynamic as it currently is gave us marriage equality after all. Kennedy and Roberts are not immovable.
That didn't answer my question, and I can think of governments that do worse than forbid entry in the name of Christianity- so yes. Been to Uganda or Serbia lately?
I don't think there's usually any rules for how to answer a theoretical question, is there? To clarify as to why some religions might posit they aren't included, I'll use my own as an example:
Buddhists believe that the Buddha comes from the unconstructed. That Buddhas are higher than gods...
I'm just curious what you currently accept the origin of life to be? If you've got one better than evolution, I'm all ears. Evolution answers questions creationism can't answer. Like why vestigiality exists within species. Vestigiality would seem to refute an omni-attributes creator.
I'm not...
Right I expounded on my thought some and mentioned that. I'm a philosopher, so I don't underestimate the problems with trying to appeal to altruism, as though that required no further clarification.
Possibly altruism, but that has yet to be worked into a coherent narrative. I think Sam Harris is trying.
One problem anyone would run up against trying to argue altruism as a premise of societal cohesion is that we only say the behaviors described as altruistic are correct. We'd still need an...
Hypnosis is too leading to be accurate or effective in treating the people it works on. I believe Dr. Susan Clancy has written papers expressing her conclusion that hypnosis creates alien abduction memories in hypnotic sessions involving sleep paralysis, for example.
The UK has anti-blasphemy laws. They haven't entirely exercised religion's say in their government. This also goes back to a ruling they made, that every religion has equal status with Anglicanism in the public sphere, even if not in the divine sense. Therefore, the UK's anti-blasphemy laws...
I am sorry to hear of this tragedy. It's always sad when people suffer and die violently.
Reckon someone higher up did it? I don't rule anything out in Putin's Russia.
Well I already pointed out two reasons why saying they should just leave arguably doesn't cut it. The chief being that they may be in a family situation where disassociation from the religion means they're seen as betraying the family.
Also, that such beliefs of said religions are not truly...
Actually the Buddha did use Brahman a few times in a positive way. The one that easiest comes to mind is in the Samyutta Nikaya. Interestingly enough he refers to his Dharma as the way of Brahman, or the life seeking Brahman.
He also used it as a criticism of the dualist sects that tried to fix...
