    Day 1Bible Reading

I'm not entirely sure why you're bothering, you sound like you're not even remotely open to believing in the biblical God. You've said before that you just want to know what the 'truth' is, and yet instead of approaching the bible as possible truth you treat it as a joke. Seems like your mind...

Men and women... equal salaries for similar jobs in Saudi Arabia?

No. We've progressed to the point where the issue is relevant. But in your country? Women don't even make up a quarter of your workforce, and are not allowed to work any job. Only specific jobs are allowed. It's like skipping ahead, it's not helpful. You need to tackle the issues of getting...

Men and women... equal salaries for similar jobs in Saudi Arabia?

You're the one who mentioned it being a start, And I assumed you meant a start towards equality. Is that not what this thread is supposed to be about? Because if it was specifically about gender-based salary discrimination wouldn't you have mentioned that instead of bringing up laws specifically...

Men and women... equal salaries for similar jobs in Saudi Arabia?

It's not thoughtless gossip. Women require Mahrams for various things, including travel outside the home. So in other, simpler terms, they require an escort. And I'm not talking about a trip to the grocery store (obviously) but distant travel in general. And nothing I said was wrong, which is...

Is there something that can unite all Christians?

I think if we all recognized that we're individuals, with individual beliefs, and that the only things that matter are our hearts and our love for God and that everything else is immaterial.

Men and women... equal salaries for similar jobs in Saudi Arabia?

Women can barely interact with men. They are limited in how effective of workers they can be, not because they are limited but because they are forced to be. They cannot even shake hands with their fellow male co-workers, And they still are required to be escorted outside of their home by a man...

    Comforting scripture

Because you don't speak for the Christ I believe in, you speak for whatever you believe in. If I wanted to hear from Christ I'd speak to someone who actually believed in Him as I do. Wisdom can come from anyone, and God uses people to influence us but what you were doing is neither of those...

Does anyone else experience anxiety over climate change?

Yup. Sucks. But why be anxious? You reap what you sow, not even the whole of humanity can escape that. Besides, I never really understood why people were so attached to the survival of humanity. Humanity, no matter what we do, will one day eventually be wiped out. But you, personally, will die...

    Comforting scripture

I think you should just not. I understand your thoughts, but honestly maybe just keep religion out of it? If she's upset why not just comfort her like you'd comfort anyone else? You regurgitating words you don't believe in doesn't really help anybody.

    Hitting children for education/disciplinary purposes...

Yes, it's fine, imo. Kids can be evil little creatures and need a good smack on the bum every now and then. One time as a kid I ran away and crossed a busy highway (Which is crazy dangerous). When my parents finally found me I got the belt. The memory stays with you, that's for sure. And since...

If God Is Omnipotent and Omniscient...

Like I said, the only reason death is considered sad or bad is because of the people left behind. And it's hard to shake indoctrination, the way we've been taught to see death all our lives. Some people can, some can't. It doesn't really matter though.

If God Is Omnipotent and Omniscient...

It is self-centered. But that is who we pity, that is why death is considered 'sad' and 'bad' not because it is, but because of the people left behind. They're the ones who make it into an ordeal. And we're all expendable, Life isn't the be all and end all to anyone but Atheists.

How does religion hold up when faced with these questions?

I never meant bone cancer, obviously. But you kept bringing up starvation and poverty, which is what I was obviously referring to. And why should God fix problems He did not cause? Why should He cure cancer when these diseases are the only things keeping our population in check. Overpopulation...

    Why the Hell . . . .

You could just as easily ask 'What is accomplished by putting people in heaven?' Either way the bible doesn't say, exactly. Personally, I think it's because the constant sin warps your soul into something unrepentant and irredeemable. And where else would you put a soul like that?

If God Is Omnipotent and Omniscient...

How would I know? An example of why I have faith.

If God Is Omnipotent and Omniscient...

What I prefer and what I need are two different things.

How does religion hold up when faced with these questions?

And who are you to judge what they do and do not deserve? And are you not capable of helping them? Are we not all capable of helping them? Is it really God letting them die or is it us? Do you blame God so that no one will blame you?
  18. Thana

If God Is Omnipotent and Omniscient...

Yes, growth applies. But not to the ones who are dying, but to the ones who watch. It changes you in a fundamental way. And it is interesting, I suppose, in objective ways. Or are you already too emotionally attached to your hypothetical little girl that you can't see that?

How does religion hold up when faced with these questions?

And we come full circle. God doesn't fix all your problems, therefore God is a bad guy. No personal responsibility, no questions as to whether or not you even deserve utopia. Typical.

How does religion hold up when faced with these questions?

Except you are as a kid told about death. And we have funerals and make a big deal and people tell you how sorry they are for you and on and on, All learned behaviours on how we should feel about death. It's not a natural reaction. It's an indoctrinated one.
