Even though I'm not a Krishna Devotee, the children that show up at temple on Krishna Janmashtami make the visit during such a crowded festival totally worth it.
Last night during the Kirtan, there were several funny run-ins with some of these 'new people' (As I like to think of them).
1.)...
Mine are mostly over. I think I'm stuck with "obligatory grieving" for a while when it comes to being around other mourners otherwise I look heartless. But hopefully that preoccupation will pass too.
*hugs* I'm sorry for your loss =(
I don't think there are any rules on it that I've heard of however I think it comes down to the energy you bring to temple. If you are depressed and mourning, that will come with you to the temple. What might be more healing and spiritually cleansing (so to...
The only reference I can find to a male Hindu God with a Sword is a form of Vishnu called "Nandaka" and the Avatar, Kalki. The other possibility is it is another form of Murugan, but try as I might I can't find visual evidence of this.
She's a bit large for any milk crates I've seen however, I like your plexiglass idea. I am going to scout around at thrift shops to see if I can find furniture I can modify. If I can't find anything I might consider selling her if I can find someone interested.
You'll have to dig deep for this one:
Bronze Hariharan, Half Shiva-Vishnu Murti 24"
But there's also this colorful wooden option:
Wood HariHaran Half Vishnu/Statue 24"
Dakshinamurthy:
Brass Shiva as Dhakshinamurti Statue 12"
Dhanvantari:
Marble Ayurvedic God Dhanvantari 16"
I tries using that Sculpy stuff once because you're supposed to bake it. I followed the directions to a T but they came out black and burned :X
This story also reminded me of the time I tried to bake a 3D gingerbead angel for my MIL. The dough settled into a nice gingerbread puddle in the pan.
There are a couple different kinds available - but yes, you can get it in spray form. The question is whether I'll be able to get an even coat if I can't use a rag to wipe down the whole statue. (Since it's so detailed).
I actually used Shellac today which I found out is not the same as...
I am putting varnish on her today. I think the issue is there are too many nooks and crannies where painting varnish will be impossible, so those will be areas where moisture can seep in from the air. I live in northern CA and for most of the year this isn't a problem, but our winters are wet...
=) Thank you for the compliment and the critique =) When I sculpt I think I stylistically gravitate toward broader than average lips and noses. It shows up in my drawings too. But based on the old masters you are right.
Thanks! Here is a picture of the one I wanted but with a different finish. The one I wanted was more of an antique bronze color. The one I wanted was actually Maa Kali, but as I started working on mine I switched to Lakshmi. Not sure why. Maybe just intuition. =)
Namaste All,
I don't know if defiance is a good reason for creativity but I have to admit it's a powerful motivator for action. I've been swooning over Lotus Sculpture murtis for years but they are way outside my price range at the moment. But there was one I wanted so badly and when it finally...
