Right turn on red? With pedestrian deaths rising, US cities are considering bans

In NJ there are a couple of scenarios depending on the location and traffic flow. Slow down or even stop coming onto a circle (roundabout). Traffic on the circle has the right-of-way. Traffic already on the roundabout yields to traffic entering. That one is really weird and dangerous in my opinion.

Right turn on red? With pedestrian deaths rising, US cities are considering bans

NJ has done some pretty stupid things, and right-on-red was one of them. The law is that you come to a complete stop, and turn only if there is no traffic coming towards you. It does not mean cut off oncoming traffic. It does not mean roll through without stopping or slowing down. It does...

    Navaratri

No, that's very good and appreciated. I wasn't crazy about the translation and "interpretation" the article provided.

If there is a life after death.....

The cycle of samsara, death and rebirth until the soul achieves mokśa, liberation/release from this cycle. I believe what the Bhagavad Gita says: "As a person sheds worn-out garments and wears new ones, likewise, at the time of death, the soul casts off its worn-out body and enters a new one."

    (Unofficial) Beliefs questionnaire for RF

**Philosophical Beliefs** - What is your main philosophical worldview? (e.g. existentialism, pragmatism, humanism, etc.) Probably a combination of Pragmatism and Stoicism: "It is what it is" to a large degree but I'll try to change what I can, especially if it involves learning from history...

    Pagan vs Christian

Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you. :D :D :D Seriously, that's a good point about the diversity and balancing. What I meant is that I can't sit still for meditation, so jñāna mārga/jñāna yoga isn't the path for me. I seem to be drawn to karma yoga and...

    Navaratri

Śubha Navarātri. :) oṁ śānti karmaṇi sarvatra tathā duḥsvapna darśanē grahapīḍāsu cōgrāsu mahātmyaṁ śr̥ṇuyānmama Loosely: May Goddess Durgā prevent you from seeing bad dreams, experiencing planetary maleficent effects, and bring peace of mind.

    Pagan vs Christian

That's the Hindu philosophy Viśiṣṭādvaita (vish-isht-ad-vyta), one of many philosophical schools. It holds that all diversity, all seeming individual existence, subsumes to a single whole entity. This entity is Brahman, or "God" that I referred to earlier. It's the philosophy I find myself drawn...

    Puja and aarati question

Oh, I'm driving the bus to hell. :D I know there are no hard and fast rules, so sounds good with just chanting the slokas. I'll use the aarati song for when I do a full blown aarati by itself. Edit: Btw, I know that one ... it's from the Shiva Upasana. So yeah, chanting a mantra or slokas is...

    Puja and aarati question

I've taken to doing a small aarati and mantrapushpanjali after puja, and before kshama prayer. Now, when I have time, in the aarati I sing om jaya jagadisha hare waving the 5 wick deepa. When I'm pressed for time (I start work at 6 am) I just make the panchopacara offerings (gandha, pushpa...

    Pagan vs Christian

Three reasons: Christians are bound by the commandment "Thou shalt not have other/strange gods before me". Nowhere does the Bible deny the existence of other gods. The usage of "false gods" is incorrect. Christians are further bound by Jesus's comment "I am the way the truth and the life. No...

A karmic right to curse someone?

You're kind of right. Modern designation is Dwarka. I think that's a Hindi-izing of it. Historically and scripturally in Sanskrit the name is Dvārakā. The Dwarkadhish Temple is the modern name. I'm not sure why it's Dvārakādisha and not Dvārakesha according to sandhi.

A karmic right to curse someone?

So, that is it. Karma has played its hand in case of your land lady. Yes, yes it has. And it's a wonderful thing. :) Seriously, I'm not one to easily latch onto the idea of "instant karma", but who knows why it seemingly happens. I received a call from my lawyer yesterday. We did...

A karmic right to curse someone?

Good and educational points. It's really all pretty intricate I see. In my case it's probably more out of anger ... I really don't hate anyone, I never have, I may hate the actions but not the person. Forgiveness on the other hand ... I can't think of anyone I haven't forgiven for things they've...

A karmic right to curse someone?

I kind of thought so. I'm glad I asked first, before doing anything to affect my karma. I'm probably going to be reborn for many lifetimes as an artichoke or centipede as it is. :disappointed:

A karmic right to curse someone?

That's why I'm now thinking let nature/karma take its course. What happened in the Itihasas and Puranas doesn't mean we should do the same. This is why I'm glad I broached the subject here. :)

A karmic right to curse someone?

Yeah, I wasn't thinking further than her family. She said she has to do what's best for her family, which means to her evicting us and giving the apartment to her son and daughter. I'm now thinking that if she loses this case she's responsible for court and lawyer's fees. That can be pretty hefty.

A karmic right to curse someone?

My husband hates it when I say that. To justify myself I tell him it only means "May God condemn/send it to hell". Actually it does mean that though. "God-****ing-dammit" takes it to a whole 'nother level. I try not to use it anymore. I'm taking to jai sri krishna! or krishna, yashoda, nanda ca!

A karmic right to curse someone?

This is what I kind of figure. My efforts may do nothing. In fact, I may have already incurred karmic effects by my thoughts. As far as cursing the apartment itself I mean causing it to harbor negativity. In the same way people sage or smudge an are I'm thinking of the opposite. But of course...

A karmic right to curse someone?

As luck would have it I just received a call from a NJ Legal Services attorney. We qualify for at least minimal representation due to our income status. She read the court complaint and said that by virtue of the incomplete notice-to-quit, that is, it has no reason given for eviction, it should...
