Not really, only the basic concepts like enlightenment, the eight realms and how the self manifests in the world surrounding me.

    Holy book woes

They never did want to force me into Christianity, but they did care about familial respect towards one another. I was usually disengaged from what the priest said and the times I was actively listening, I notice that they tend to do the following: Read the Bible followed by his own comments...

    Buddhist scripture

As someone looking into the Buddhism faith to accept its teachings as true, what is the holy literature associated with the faith as a starting point on the eightfold path?

    Holy book woes

Neat proverbs, but how does a (or your) holy book withstand amid modern science and human rights.

    Holy book woes

In all honesty, the only example I have to bring forth are my own experiences with preachers of church services that I was dragged into by my more religious relatives. My own personal conjecture is that preachers tend to avoid backward parts of the holy book *hangs head in shame*

    Holy book woes

Now, this is very interesting especially given current events in Europe that Hadith 53 and Hadith 43 would still hold up given how the more toxic interperatations radicalize people into being martyrs. The reformation of Islam is a very hot topic right now so if your faith was prophessed in a way...

But, what of verses like Leviticus 16:15 Leviticus 18:14 & Leviticus 18:22 So, how well do you believe that the holy book holds up in the face of these verses That IS cherry picking

    Holy book woes

Like Leviticus and deurotonomy as well as all those Qu'ran verses and Hadiths that justify the killing and torture of apostates and non-believers. Does a holy book still hold up when stuff like that gets odemoted in various religious circles due to them being backward in this age of human rights...

    Holy book woes

It is common pracice across many Abrahamic faiths (for the better in my opinion) to cherry pick selective verses or sections of the respective holy books (bible, qur'an, etc.) to profess as being the words of god as well as a set layout of beliefs, but I want to ask one thing: (mostly to hear...

    The ONE book?

As someone considering Buddhism as an active faith and apologies in advance if it sounds like I'm insulting you, but i've noticed many pieces of incoherent nonsense throughout the Bible that serve as an odd mix of fiction and spirituality. Examples: The slaying of Goliath where David slays a...

New Theory: Why More Intelligent People Tend to be Less Religious

Just to throw my hat into the ring, intelligent people seek to justify concepts of spirituality through logic and reasoning often trying to funnel religious theology and ideas into a scientific framework (personal experience). When intelligent people accept the idea of a higher power being a...
