    11 Questions

Ooh, I like this! “If all of life is meaningless, and ultimately absurd, why bother to march straight forward, why stand in the queue as though life as a whole makes sense?" —Francis Schaeffer, The God Who Is There Life is inherently meaningless. There is no divine purpose for...

    Men have authority over women

That's cute. Do you own slaves, too? Or, maybe the wife is a substitue for the slave(s).

Evolution, as many percieve it, is wrong.

Random events? I include American Idol in that category. So, let's say gene replication, mutation, and American Idol.

Evolution, as many percieve it, is wrong.

I think that's a common misconception theists have about evolution, though. You're starting with the end product and trying to develop the process. Evolution is the other way around. When certain conditions are present, certain beings result. Humanity is not an end product.

    Agnostic: Get off the fence?

Sitting on razor-thin fences is an excellent way to cut your genitalia.

Addressing the Problems of Secular Humanism

I consider this to be admirable. It eliminates most forms of fundamentalism. Admitting you are wrong and eradicating arrogance are very important for social progress. Yes, but there will also be agreeance among people who care enough and have enough passion to be socially pragmatic. This is an...

    Strong-Atheism: A fallacy?

I think you said it very well. You can "prove a negative" to a specific, legal extent, like "You were at the mall at 5 pm!" "No, I wasn't! I was at the doctor's office! See, they have me on their security video." As long as you have video evidence and strong witnesses' statements, you can "prove...

    Strong-Atheism: A fallacy?

I really don't like that title at all. I don't think you can have varying levels of nonbelief. But for the purposes of this board, I'd consider myself a "strong atheist." Outside this board, I say I'm just "an atheist."

    Do Atheists believe in free-will?

    Omniresponsible

I've seen some people write on here that God allows "free will" (whatever that means), but God's omniscience really negates the whole concept. In simple terms, if I see a baby in a street, and a car is coming, I have a moral obligation to remove that baby from the street before he/she is run...

When is a human a person?

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Here is where you falter. There is a difference between being of the human species and having personhood (i.e., legal status). Legal status occurs at birth (social dependence, rights, etc.). Because the zygote/embryo/fetus is physically dependent on another...

    was adam right?

Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge. Yahweh kicked them out of the garden before they could eat from the tree of life. Once Yahweh realized both Adam and Eve would become gods, He became insanely jealous and fearful, and then he kicked them out to prohibit them from attaining god-like...

    The Inevitable Impasse (for Atheists)

I couldn't agree more. I often say, "We know human nature, but we don't know God's, so we can make God whatever we want, and change Him/Her/It/Them when it suits us." Except that I do think we need to overcome this impasse. Otherwise, the religious debates become jaded. I have no doubt that...

    The Inevitable Impasse (for Atheists)

Hi, everyone. I'm new here. I'm a "debateanything" refugee. :) I originally posted this thread over there, and it received minimal responses. I'm hoping some people here could help me out with this. Thanks! Atheists, agnostics, and secular people who debate: When debating with theists, there...
