I am confident that this is an idea that people have held since forever and dreamt of it. But I don't know of any such example in life where large groups of people live like this. I don't subscribe to this 'test' philosophy as its based on too many false premises. Human nature isn't great...
Interesting. Frankly I see little to no tangible substance with such beliefs however they cannot be criticised or faulted.
Indeed, very true. Something i've thought about too.
Cut me some slack, I was a kid when I wrote that.
Now I believe Gandhi was the face of freedom, but great men like Netaji, Sardar Patel, Bhagat Singh etc were the winners of independence.
My estimation of Gandhi falls as I grow up, especially now i've lost any respect I have for Nehru.
Just like Christmas, it's a commercial holiday so I always bear a sense of resentment on that level.
But otherwise, find it impossible to disagree with the concept of Valentines Day. It's actually nice, if anything. However the fear is that Valentine's day is associated with the high levels of...
Why do you think yourself important enough to deserve personal divine intervention from Lord Ganesh? Why is anyone? Who isn't worthy?
Slippery slope to think God helps you.
Plenty of animosity towards Swaminarayan's here.
Looking far too deeply into the simple practice of changing the clothes of the Murti regularly and sometimes to match the occasion of the day.
Some of you should see, Swaminarayan's are doing more for Hinduism than hundreds of other groups out...
I don't quite mean it like that, I mean in the sense of 'copying' the fundamentals that all Abrahamic religions share which, in my opinion have found a place among Hinduism today. Fundamentals such as a single supreme God, Central text, prophet (or guru of godly status) and a narrative to...
Or that the CIA trained parts of the FSA which later broke away?
Don't forget, Pakistan helped to form the Taliban too, they should get much more of the credit instead of directing the same old vitriol to the USA.
Certainly, the very nature of Hinduism stops most people (who don't already have underlying dominating tendencies as people) from interpreting and enforcing these guidelines as rules.
But it all comes down to what people consider as authoritative scripture. Somebody has quoted the Mahabharata...
The spread, influence and power of the Hindu community in the USA should hopefully put an end to nonsense like this within time.
The HAF should issue copies of the Chanakya Neeti to its members.
EDIT: Silly me, I meant the Arthshastra.
I think these are in two main camps that may be further broken down. My type of thinking which is free-er and less restricted by scriptural obligation or rule, and those who have organised Hinduism and systematised it, mainly due to the advent of Abrahamic religion in the sub-continent. That is...
1) What practices do you find most important? And what motivates you to practice them?
I don't partake in any but I believe gaining knowledge is the greatest thing a person can do.
BG 4.37: As a blazing fire turns firewood to ashes, O Arjuna, so does the fire of knowledge burn to ashes all...
Depends on what you consider to be Hinduism. I call myself a Hindu of sorts but I do not pray, attend mandir or even regularly read scriptures.
It culminates to a way of life and philosophy on life and doesn't require a 'conversion' as such, to me.
I understand it's difficult or intimidating...
