Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Hmm, really? Science can do an awful lot to help people. Many of the scientists (and in fact so am I, although I'm not sure at what point in education you are supposed to classify yourself as a scientist) I know are very interested in the ways that their research can help people suffering...

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

There's stats from different countries available if wanted :), I reckoned America seems most applicable on this forum. For many countries also, the levels of atheism found among the general public is v. high, so I also thought there would be less interest & difference between them and scientists.

Do Female Feminists Want to be Treated Like Men?

Ditto Nanda. Although I'd prefer, I think, being treated in a "male" manner (I hang around alot of men, I'm the only female on our icehockey team etc), rather than in a "female" manner, just because I fit in with slightly more of the male stereotypes than the females ones. But yes, I like being...

What Is Wrong With Letting a Man be a Gentleman?

Hmm, I only find it annoying if a male opens a door for only females, and if he refuses to let me open a door for him.

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Me? I was saying the that more scientists were atheist than the general population, & that's supported there :)

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Please do not tell me that you think this stereotype is true? I know far, far too many absolutely, disgustingly (:() gorgeous scientists. I'd post pictures of people I know, but I reckon that'd be something of a breach of their privacy. I know plenty of lovely lovely scientists too. But, I'd say...

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Well, I think that's entirely hideous behaviour to have, to disown, or refuse to associate/befriend someone just because they are religious. I believe entirely in people's right to decide things for themselves as well, but would very like people to have all the facts before them, and I have...

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Well, I was trying to get across the idea that I was exclaiming quite a lot :p I'm not talking about causation here, I'm saying that huge correlation certainly cannot be dimissed automatically as being meaningless and was pointing out that there is certainly instances where it's be found to be...

Some people believe the holocaust did not happen why is this?

Unless this is some type of rhetorical Q (and I'm not really that sure what the point made behind that would be), I fail to see why this is in the Science vs Religion area!

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Hmm, I can only speak from my personal experience, but everyone told me there was a god etc, when I was a kid, and when I started thinking for myself, I started to realise that this did not make sense to me, that there was nothing at all saying that there was a god etc. :) Lots of testimony...

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Brainwashing? Do you genuinely believe this is the reason behind the stats posted above, or are you just trolling? If the former, I don't think science teaching generally involves the touching upon any theological issues at all (it never has in my experience, and I think it'd be generally...

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

There is a really big correlation in the stats though. Are you then saying that all correlation is meaningless then?! What about correlation between ill-health and smoking. There's definite correlation (and there's definite evidence as to what goes on in the body due to smoking that can harm...

    Darwin is tricky

No, I'm afraid I don't see why life should only be possible because water floats when it freezes! Please explain! I've found little things on why it'd be good as an insulator, but there's arguments against it being good, apparently (I'll start posting links in a couple more posts on when this...

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

That's an interesting point, but as you've said in another thread, not all creationists are (by your info - I have no info on this, so I'm going by you on this!) not anti-evolution, and certainly all theists are not creationists.

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

I didn't say there was evidence that there was nescessarily causation, but there is correlation, a pretty big correlation especially for the more senior scientists. I'm just curious if you have any thoughts as to why this would be :)

Theists: Why do you think more scientists are atheists?

Why are scientists more likely to be atheists? I'd especially be interested in the views of theists on this matter. Stats: "A study has shown atheism to be particularly prevalent among scientists, a tendency already quite marked at the beginning of the 20th century, developing into a...

    Darwin is tricky

So you basically just think that God made the physical laws of the universe? Like gave thymine the property of making dimers on exposure to UV, the replication machinery of the cell the property of sometimes misreading the sequence etc? I guess this is more likeable than alot of the creationist...

    Darwin is tricky

I'm not a student of physics, but of biochemistry, but the basics of quantum physics that I am aware of is rather different to what you are saying. "Energy entangles mass" ... E=mc squared? Is this what you are saying then? "which is literally in fact that unknown phenomenon known as...

    Darwin is tricky

Is this not initially rather obvious? They go on to conclude that: How does this indicate anything away from sensible logic, and support for the evolution that we observe?
