ِِA question about sin

idea

Question Everything
I believe for instance if one wishes to judge me on my understanding of the Bible then I will also judge that person by his understanding of the Bible and of course I will wish to judge by the light God has given me.

Exactly. It's impossible to go through life without judging what is around you - from judging what is a better deal at the store, to what political candidate you should vote for, to what music to listen to. The important part is to just be very careful about it and apply the golden rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you etc.

Who said it's my word? You think only Christians received revelations from god. I told you use logic with your bible. Did Jacob beat god the almighty? Did prophet Lot lay with his daughters? Did god the all knowing, who sees all, only discovered that Adam ate the apple, while he was waking in the garden like a normal man? are we made in the image of god when we are 3% far from being monkeys?
Yes, according to the story, Jacob was able to beat God. It is what changes his name to Israel, IIRC. Yes, Lot had sex with his daughters.

You have to understand that there are things we think make up gods, and what the ancients thought made up gods. God's original characterization is almost nothing like the omni-omni-omni character we know today.

Why do Christians care about the inherited sin or any other sin and why do they confess their sins to priests and ask for forgiveness when they believe that Jesus sacrificed himself for their sin?
Because people are strange and believe in tradition more than they believe in logic.

LOL. You've got to be a pretty lame God to have some uppity human beat you at anything.

One of the funniest Far Side cartoons of all time.

The Bible is basically an instruction booklet on how to judge others.

Right, but didn't Jesus teach not to judge others? I may be wrong here, but I thought Jesus was teaching about love and forgiveness. Although I do admit, people judge other people just because it says what they're doing is wrong but I thought Jesus was about love. It seems to me Paul was the one who ruined everything.

He says it once in the "he without sin may cast the first stone" story, which is all well and good, but then for much of the rest of the New Testament Jesus spends defining exactly what behaviors are "wrong" and "right" and explaining to everyone all the reasons they are probably going to be damned to hell.

At one point he says it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a person to go to Heaven. The trick is, he blames it on God. It's not ME judging you by saying you're a sinner for X, Y and Z reasons, it's my father.

Modern Christians try the same trick. They say 100 judgmental things about gay people, for example, how they are sinners, dirty, unnatural, etc....but then say "hey, it's not me judging, it's God."

It's a cop out in both cases.

Jesus issued a warning, not a commandment, that the standards you use to judge others will be the same standard used to judge you.
Interesting, is it not, how so many Christians get that wrong?
