I believe it fits into the paranoia the RCC shows at times when it protests films. I am willing to wager that the majority of people in the USA have no concept of what the Bhagavad Gita is. I expect in India more people are familiar with it and know that it is more than one random verse.
I believe I tend to agree that protests seldom shed a better light on a religion but I wouldn't count on CNN to present a correct account of the protest.Having mostly read the story, that quite is from right-wing Hindu fanatics who are noted for attacking Muslims on various grounds. Whether or not that scene was designed to provoke and maybe it was, the paranoid response by fanatics is worse than the offense.
It's an idiotic, grandiose, nonsensical claim. How does the utterance of the one, single, most famous quote in the entire text become “a direct assault on the religious beliefs of a billion tolerant Hindus,” likening it to “waging a war on the Hindu community.”? That's just insane!
Sounds like certain conservative elements whining like they often do to me.
I love cholcolate but if someone steps on a candy bar I am not going to attack the plant in Hershey, PA.LEAVE HINDUISM ALONE. We love hinduism.
Arrant nonsense from right wing hindutva nuts who nowadays control much of the political power in India.
