“Whether you vote or not is public information”

A political ad I just got said verbatim

Whether you vote or not is public information. Your friends and family can see if you voted, so make sure you make a plan to vote!

I don’t really have much to say other than I think the method of convincing you to vote is very telling.

The ad is rightly predicting you will be ostracized and hated on for not doing your part in the circus show. Still, it doesn’t mean you should vote. If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it as well?

Who else is not voting?! Are you worried that your friends and family will be able to see the public information that you did not vote?

How do they see that you've voted or not? I don't think that is public knowledge in the UK.

Try Australia, voting is compulsory, although you can vote "None of the above"

I’m not sure, it’s just what the ad said. The ad said “who you vote for is secret, but whether or not you vote is public information.”

Granted, I’m taking the ads word for it, but I figure they wouldn’t run the ad if it wasn’t true.

(Arizona by the way)

In the US it is public info if you voted. This is how they target likely voters. It also means you will stop getting texts and calls after you vote from candidates.

Well I wasn’t wrong in this case :)
How so, yes you can access registration records and they are often available to certain parties, but more detailed information such as the last time someone voted is not generally available and probably not even updated significantly until after an election. The internal election data that is used during the election is not public if only to avoid hacking. (Arizona might be a stupid exception)

This was an interesting book:

Written by a guy hired by the Trump campaign after the 2020 election to find fraud. It is all about statistical analysis, data collection, interpretation, probability etc. Of course it found no evidence of significant voter fraud, but it was also interesting how hard it was to get some records of who voted. It is a mishmash of different laws and different procedures in each state, in some the records are not available, in some they are incomplete, in some they require a large payment for a researcher to access them. And in other states it is free and relatively easy.

Here is a website where you can order/access/pay for voter information.

Here is an example of what info you can get, which varies from state to state.

Comparing not voting in this election - were the basic human rights of more than half the population are in very real jeopardy - to jumping of a bridge is... well, it is very telling.

Rights are given up as a whole when we accept government as a concept and allow it to exist… such is my perspective. So the human rights are already forsaken.

Sure, you can point to my privilege and say I have rights, but I’d say I’m a free range cattle.

While in principle this isn't incorrect, I'm just not interested in hypothetical abstractions and high-minded speculations. Real, concrete things are happening with real, concrete consequences. The fact of the matter is, women's basic rights were destroyed a couple years ago and the party responsible for it not only doesn't care but has every intention of making it worse. Women are being subject to undue torture, abuse, and suffering both mentally and physically. Some are straight up being killed - Amber Thurman was the first to be widely publicized. Unless one is okay with that - unless one has no care at all for our mothers and our sisters and all the women in our lives and with more women being killed and tortured and their lives destroyed - this is not something to be sitting out on.

Is abortion the sole issue though? I don’t want to downplay the importance of abortion rights, but I want to dig deeper.

Kamala is pro Israel war on Palestine it seems. Correct me if I’m wrong but from the snippets of the interviews I seen of her she seems very pro Israel and the American munitions keep heading to Israel while she is Vice President.

As long as the whole of Americans pay their taxes and remain loyal citizens, it seems bombs will keep dropping elsewhere. Is peace something we should sit out on? I think not, so I refuse to vote.

Does this make sense?

But you are not, you accept the social contract any time you interact with society whether you wish to admit it or not.

Yes, very much so. It's a question of your personal values.

This is a hard one for me because women's human rights is one of the very few hills I am willing to die on (and not metaphorically). That's because I have absolutely zero tolerance for direct threats to my life - and there is no question that failure to provide needed medical care to women during pregnancy is a very direct threat on her life (that's without accounting for the very direct threats it poses to mental heath and socioeconomic standing which are also atrociously present here). The barbarism of forced birth has, unfortunately, made me a single issue voter because it is a direct assault on myself and others I care about. I and others I cherish may literally be killed because of it. My awesome boss could be killed. My awesome coworker could be killed. My own mother probably would have been killed before I was born if she had these basic rights stripped away. This is 2500%+ intolerable to me. It just is.
