10 commandments need amending!

godless wonder
"And God spoke all these words, saying: 'I am the LORD your God…

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'

TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'

THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'

FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'

SIX: 'You shall not murder.'

SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'

EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'

NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'

TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
So 1-4 is about god's ego. 5 is still good (unless you have an adopted child and the couple is a same sex couple). 6,7,8,9,10 are good to go too.
But where is rape? Where is molestation? Where is treating each individual kindly and fairly (no discrimination)? Not to enslave? And lastly, turn of that cellphone.

I'm sure god foresaw these problems, so why weren't commandments included to dissuade them?

The 10 Commandments are a rough overall guide only.
Once you show willing to obey these God will lead you into more detail in what is right and what is not.
Why should God give more than already instructed if we just ignore him ? Human nature is such it will always demand and ask for more without committing to anything. Continually questioning his motives will not give us the answers unless we take him serious.
God is looking for a ' personal 'relationship and involvement with each of us.

It's been a long time since I've read a Bible, but from what I remember the 10 commandments weren't the only rules to live by. Moses gave quite a few instructions to the Israelites, rape was covered in these instructions.

Just did a quick search on BibleGateway, but it gives little on rape except in Deuteronomy 22, really.

Deuteronomy 22:25-28

25 But if out in the country a man happens to meet a girl pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the girl; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders his neighbor, 27 for the man found the girl out in the country, and though the betrothed girl screamed, there was no one to rescue her.

28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

Is there somewhere else that I may have missed? Otherwise this doesn't seem to prohibit rape explicitly; except that the rapist must marry the woman.

You're right though, there are a lot more laws than the 10 commandments, 613 of them it seems. Some of these rules are um.. interesting. :D

Matthew 5:27-28 You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Proverbs 6:24-26 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes, for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.

Like I say, it's been years since I've read it, but I could have sworn it dealt with it. Looks like I was wrong on that one though.

Yeah some of the rules are pretty bizzare. Betty Bowers does a brilliant sketch on true Christian marriage and the rules surrounding it all based on the rules of the old testament.

Don't be apologetic for what should have been done if god had forseen what is happening now.

Haven't found anything to support that.

Thanks, but that's not rape or molestation. Adultery is implied to a married person.

Neither God nor I are responsible for human disobedience and misdeeds !!! You want him to force people to obey ? Or make them so they can't sin ? If he had you would be a pre-programmed Robot with never a choice in anything.
Don't worry free choice will not always be available, it will soon be curtailed.

It is all in understanding - there can never be enough commandments for those that judge what is okay to do and not okay to do by what they have been commanded or forced upon them by law.

So we sinners and non believers will be damned by hellfire?

The Law and the Promise

Galatians 3:15 Brothers and sisters, let me give you an example from everyday life. No one can get rid of an official agreement between people. No one can add to it. It can't be changed after it has been made. It is the same with God's covenant. 16 The promises were given to Abraham. They were also given to his seed. Scripture does not say, "and to seeds." That means many people. It says, "and to your seed."—(Genesis 12:7; 13:15; 24:7) That means one person. And that one person is Christ.

17 Here is what I mean. The law {TEN COMMANDMENTS} came 430 years after the promise. But the law does not get rid of God's covenant and promise. The covenant had already been made by God. So the law does not do away with the promise. 18 The great gift that God has for us does not depend on the law. If it did, it would no longer depend on a promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a free gift through a promise. 19 Then what was the purpose of the law? It was added because of human sin. And it was supposed to control us until the promised Seed had come. The law was put into effect through angels by a go-between. 20 A go-between does not take sides. God didn't use a go-between when he made his promise to Abraham. But the same God was at work in both the law and the promise. 21 So is the law opposed to God's promises? Certainly not! What if a law had been given that could give life? Then people could become right with God by obeying the law. 22 But Scripture announces that the whole world is a prisoner because of sin. It does so in order that what was promised might be given to those who believe. The promise comes through faith in Jesus Christ. 23 Before faith in Christ came, we were held prisoners by the law. We were locked up until faith was made known. 24 So the law was put in charge until Christ came. He came so that we might be made right with God by believing in Christ. 25 But now faith in Christ has come. So we are no longer under the control of the law.

The Ten Commandments don't need amending. The Bible isn't going to change to being politically correct. So just accept that. :)

Oh, and this, too. If God were just a human being, then (and only then) He would have a big ego. But since we who believe in God believe Him to be much greater than we are, then no, He wouldn't have a big ego.

So you are stating that slavery, rape and molestation are just politcally correct issues? This is one of the reasons why I'm glad a "church and state" separation exists.

That's why he's whining about having no gods or idols in the first 3 commandments. And why do you defer to god as he? He denotes male, and a male is a human being or male animal, no?
