Hmmm there should be a negative correlation between obesity and socioeconomic status. However I would like to add, and I hope niner can back me up on this, that Samoans also a fattening diet. Also genetics plays apart as well.

Samoans are big. But again part of the reason that they are getting even bigger is because they no longer really fish or "make" their foods from scratch. Lots of the food they get is imported and processed. Add in foods that are salty, sweet and fat and you're going to have a lot of people gorging since these are tastes that satisfy.
India and Pakistan are way down the list.
However they have a real problem when they come to the UK with obesity and heart problems.
Most of those at the bottom of the list are countries that have extreme poverty or persistent food shortages. Being fat for them is a sign of power and success

Very true. In cultures Kings and Queens were usually "well fed"! Which begs the question: if royalty is supposed to be carried on, but the parenting couple are plagued with diseases like diabetes and heart disease (not uncommon amongst overweight people) why would followers want a King, Queen, Prince or Princess that could croak earlier in life?
