2012, The Movie

Watching the trailer, it's clear this should have been a POV film. It really looks like a ride, not a movie. (Then again, this group is famous for trying to tell a story and getting caught up in flashy effects instead.)

I enjoyed the movie, and compared to other disaster movies, I rate the CGi effects top notch. But I have to say that after seeing 98% of the world's population die, I'm kind of tired of people dying. I don't think I'll be seeing it again soon.

Yeah, I feel that way seeing churches that have been hit by a tornado. Guess they weren't walking with Jesus enough.

I just watched 2012. Top-notch CGI depicting absolute ****.

Some brief thoughts:

- You cannot outrun an earthquake.
- You cannot outrun a toxic gas cloud from a volcano
- If you are in a gas cloud from a volcano and you inhale, you are dead.
- It is actually safe to be out in the middle of the water in a tsunami event; you should only be concerned when you are on the coastline or in low-lying areas.

There are other, major problems with this movie, but I don't want to give too many spoilers.

I found the idea of ancient Mayans predicting the end of the world to be laughable. It would have been a much better film without this hook - the end of the world is enough to make for an interesting movie.

Wasn't so much fun to see it roll over, though, and crush everyone praying in the St. Peter's square.
