Clearly, killing over 200 people on Easter is targeting one of those minorities and I would see them as persecuted.

I've been reading more on this, as I have so many SL friends. Right now it's pointing to a Muslim radical group being responsible. The SL government was trying to force them to abide by government law more in accordance with International rights laws, but they (the right wing Islamist groups) wanted to retain their Sharia like laws. That seemed to be at the heart of the problem, but who knows for sure? The SL government isn't angelic by any means. A much bigger potential problem is the backlash. The backlash riots of 1982 were indiscriminate, by mobs, and thousands died in the ensuing civil war.

A group of close friends of mine just returned from a group pilgrimage to the Jaffna peninsula. They may well have stayed in one of those hotels. On of the reasons I didn't sign up was I still sensed how dangerous it is, from conversations with friends here. Nobody here will be surprised.

Not all the victims were Christians. At least two Muslim engineers from Turkey, probably many Buddhists, Hindus and even atheists were among the innocents who died. The attackers are already known to be the NTJ.
