3 more reasons to hate the holiday season.

At a Wal Mart two people got into a fist fight, a woman and a 13 year old girl was injured at another store when it opened and a woman who waited all night out side a Best Buy, bought her sun an X Box 360, it took her entire pay check (proof that the people who price things need to be put in a mantel institution along with the people who buy them. You have to be insane to spend $500 on a video game system), when home then it was stolen by a guy with a gun.

What is wrong with people? And this is nothing new.

I hate Christmas, I hate spending money I don't have, I have bills to pay, I don't even have the money to get myself things, I'm on a crappy computer, I haven't bought my self any soft wear, movies or games in a year, yet there going to get me something so I have to get them something so I don't feel guilty. And I have to deal with those stupid Christmas sone and those damn cartoons and movies they show every year. Why can't they show something new for once?

So tell everyone you don't want presents and you wont be buying anyone anything. It's not like you're the first ever person who has done that.

Sounds like you're a depsressed person. I am not a muslim, but I don't go and cry about the muslim people in my school making anouncements over the PA every day, I actually find it quite interesting, and they hold many events, which I go to (they are public ones, I don't just randomly show up). The point is, just because you don't like religion, you can't bash it. How about telling people about the times where parents promise to buy their child something really cool for christmas if they do good in school? I think that is totally fair, because the kid will succeed in life, which is a reward on its own.

And for that woman who was held at gun point for the X box 360, I doubt that the guy who held her up was christian or anything, so how is that Chstimas' fault? I bet when PS3 comes out, stuff like that will happen too.

lady_lazarus: Tried that, didn't work.
C&N: This has nothing to do with religon, thats why I posted it in General Discussion, its about all the crap every year.

Yeah I remember in the 80s watching these american women fighting over dolls I think they were cabbage patch ugly things, but even so I hope they are ashamed of themselves especially when the novelty wears off after a week

I agree, I dislike Christmas so much it hurts. Two weeks of unmitigated boredom, people getting on your nerves and all that false ' wishing you all best' from drunken strangers. Please, I would like to go away for Christmas, some places are offering a non-christmas christmas. I wouldn't mind if people thought about it in a spiritual sense, but now it's just an excercise in consumerism,

yes shall we all be grumpy old farts ;)
Yes, why not ? - Grumpy old Fart it shall be.

Every year, my wife and I have amusedly watched shops trying to maximize sales, by first having them on the first day after Christmas. Because of the fear of lack of 'money' shops now start their sales as early as possible - in advance of Christmas, which is ludicrous.

We buy each other a box of Chocolates at Christmas; if there is something one of us likes, be it in January, February, whenever - the other will buy it as a 'belated Christmas present'.

Saves all those drawers full of unwanted hadkerchiefs, socks.............:biglaugh:

As far as that is concerned, I feel for you. Of course everyone is made to think they have to toe the line; I wonder how many credit card bills come in January, with the recipients too scared to open the letter......

I remember once when I was a christian I had to be in the nativity at church and I didn't mind it
I was 14 at the time and Joseph was played by a 60 odd year old man......and at the rehersals we both got the giggles so badly!
Apparently that was mentioned at his funeral which I was unable to attend.
It was just one of those things where you just thought what are we doing here lol

Christmas means so much to kids. As I stated in another thread, the look on their faces makes it all worthwhile. I work 80 hours a week trying to support my wife and kids. It's all worth it to bring them happiness and joy. Bringing joy to others is what Christmas should be. If I had extra money, I'd buy that woman another Xbox. To the people that hate Xmas, try this. Spend $20 on some toys, take them to a woman's shelter. Make a child smile. In return, you will get a feeling inside that money can't buy. :)

That's true...unfortunately, My wife and I now have to wait for our Children to marry and have kids (hopefully in that order), before Christmas can become enjoyable again........

1. Relatives sending you home with rejected baked goods that they could not set out or serve to other company.
2. Recieving impractical gifts or gifts with no thought to the individual whatsoever.
3. Getting together for gatherings and having to deal with that one person who is in a anti-holiday spirit.

I have no problem with getting gifts for kids in fact I think Christmas should be for children only and I believe in charity and giving to those who are in need but its all the other stuff, the crazy people, the crappy shows and movies, the getting gifts for adults who have jobs, money and can buy things for them selves.

Conspirator, Christmas is what you make it. I agree, alot of people see it as 'What will I get and how much money they will make', but you can make it different. It's about doing something for someone else. Giving. You don't have to give money. It can be your time. Like spending time with someone who has no one. Like an elderly person who's family has forgotten about them. Go to a hospital with the terminally ill children. Do something for them. It's about giving. It's up to us to make a difference.

Someone should look up the actual history of Christmas... most people assume it's because "jesus" was born in that month... but he was born in the spring... so actually Christmas is the alteration of a pagan holiday so that it was easier to make conversions out of it.... (i learned this from the discovery channel... it could be false, which is why someone should look up its actual history)
The spirit of Christmas has indeed changed over the years... and it's good that people give more than they recieve and what not...
I dont aim to change hundreds of years of tradition just because of what i say... but people really should look into the WHY of Christmas before making an actual judgement on it...

I spend Christmas with a couple of friends who, along with me, don't feel obligated to exchange gifts. It takes the pressure off Christmas and makes it entirely more enjoyable. I never enjoyed Christmas back in the day when I madly shopped for gifts for people, but nowadays I enjoy the festival.

It seems to me that most of the problems people have with Christmas have a root cause: The over commericalization of Christmas. Is this true?
