It seems to me that most of the problems people have with Christmas have a root cause: The over commericalization of Christmas. Is this true?
Yes, but can we please stop making threads about hating Christmas!!! It's a happy time!

That, and a whole load of other issues. You know that the poor and lonely, are made to feel lower than ever while , at the media's prompting, everybody has to have a good time, and if your not, well what sort of sad loser are you. I think the whole thing is a sham, and only makes those with problems feel even worse about themselves and their miserable lot.

The cake is a lie
I know that someone can be poor and still have Christmas. My mother grew up that way and they had Christmas every single year, and you can bet your right hand it didn't matter what they got. Except for that one Christmas where my grandfather died in a car wreck, but that's besides the point.

I can't see a reason to hate Christmas. If you don't like the commercialization of it, don't buy gifts! Make them.

For the people who want it to be. I've spent many a Christmas on my own (3 in fact) and it got a little lonely the first 2. On the third time I just went outside, and the first thing I saw was a dog.

He came over to me and jumped up and tried to lick me (GROSSSSS!!). But I appreciated the thought. If you're a sad sack at Christmas of course noones going to want to be around you!

You don't have to buy presents or stuff your face. Just make pleasant conversation or go for a walk in the park (my fav.)

just an observation
Well Observed.

I'd like to dedicate "Celebrate Good Times" - Kool and the Gang to Solon and the Conpirator (and anyone else who feels like an Ebeneezer!)

For the person you make an effort to help. Try it sometime.

Its sad that its only at Christmas that people do things for each other they should be doing all year. Perhaps adults would have been better off never knowing that Santa Claus is commercial. Perhaps then we would all be good all year long.

Or maybe people are soooo much more decent and helping during christmas, that by comparison to the rest of the year, people are jackasses. Honestly, people are crazy nice, like as nice as Ned Flanders on the Simpsons during the christmas season. I know I am a way better person during this time of the year, but that does not mean that I suck during the rest of it.
I know that Christmas is commercialized like crazy and all, and that makes people mad, but boo hoo. If Christmas weren't around, corporations would probably find some other excuse to make huge sales and crappy songs, and tv specials, or whatever seasonal stuff.
The point is that IT ISNT CHRISTMAS' FAULT! People in the western society just live in a place where the majority (for now) celebrate Christmas. I bet if Muslim or Jewish or whater people were the majority, and their holidays were being commercialized, there would be 12093471230947 threads hating on their holidays too.
