All AP Movie News
Iranians Outraged by `300' Movie

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/20070313/117382494000.html

"It is a new effort to slander the Iranian people and civilization before world public opinion at a time of increasing American threats against Iran," Ayende-No newspaper said in its article Tuesday.
Well obviously I haven't seen in yet, but one review I read said it was a stretch to come up with this idea, as well as the other two ideas that say it's either pro or anti war in Iraq.Everyone is always looking for a message that isn't there. It's amazing what people will read into a movie if they've got nothing better to do with their time and they're looking to be insulted.
I wouldn't expect a lot of accuracy in the battle scenes...they did say they'd deliberately messed with the fighting styles to make it more audience friendly and look more impressive on screen.

I saw it this weekend and it was the best movie I've seen in years. Everything from the plot to the music was fabulous. I was a bit disappointed when the credits rolled because I wasn't ready for it to be over.

Is it historically accurate? No, starting with the lack of breast plates on Spartan warriors (it's a sea of six-packs instead). But really, who cares! It's entertaining.

Go, go, go and watch it. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed.

One word of warning, though: there are bare female breastacles in a couple of scenes but then it's never been billed as a family film.

The thing that stood out for me is that they broke the phalanx formation much earlier in the movie than they would have in real battle. However, doing that made it more interesting!

I haven't read the graphic novel, but from what my friend said, they were completely nude in battle in the book! Sure they aren't wearing breastplates, but with that kind of fan service, who can complain?! It's a movie. It's not a documentary. However, as far as movies go, I think people can get a more accurate idea on the history than with most other historical movies. The things that were exaggerated are so clearly exaggerated that it would be hard to mistake as fact...even for really stupid people (in my opinion). By the way, the soundtrack was fantastic. I plan to buy it and I haven't bought a cd in 6 years.

I saw 300 the opening weekend. Great movie and pretty historically acurate. Nice refference to the Persian fleet being harried by storms. Xerxes was a freak!
I loved it when the Spartan queen said "only Spartan women give birth to real men", when the Persian messanger asked what gave her the right to speak in the company of men.
The concept of free men vs an army of enslaved peoples was inspiring.
Phalanx combat , so coooool!!!:D

Lacking Common Sense
Sooooo glad to see the good reviews, sometimes great trailers make for cheesy flicks -- and we really couldn't stand the thought of another bad movie after the last 3 losers we paid good money for. Both of us love the history of Sparta and didn't want to see it messed up on film.

We're going!!!

Wow, never before has a movie made me feel heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, and non-sexual in less than 2 hours.

I have decided I'm going to watch it again this week. I don't watch alot of movies more than once in the theatre.

Seen it twice aleady (because the first time was front row at Imax... ouch), and utterly loved it!

My understanding of history was that the Greeks generally fought nekkid in that era. Not so up on my ancient Greek history, though.

At any rate, this movie never claimed to be historically accurate. If anything, I loved it because it was exactly what a myth should be - bigger in the telling. Giants were huge, the Immortals were monsters, the rhino and elephants were larger than life. That guy was telling the story to the soldiers to pump them up for battle. and what a story it was!!!

The Spartans used heavy armor. The rest of Greece I'm not sure about.

Uggh... it makes me crazy. ;) Another hideous Western misrepresentation of history. I did enjoy one critique from American that I saw on the news, though. He said something to the effect of, "To them, I say of course the movie would be different if it was made in Iran. This movie would never be made in Iran. For the Iranians, this battle was just a speedbump on their path to dominating most of the known world and, if not for the controversy surrounding this film, most would probably never have heard of it."

Thank you, my friend - whoever you were.

Now may I recommend Valley of the Wolves to you all. :D lol

TOP Ten Reasons I Didn’t Particularly Care For The Movie “300”

As for a modern remake Rudulph Mat’e’s “The 300 Spartans” and Walter Hill’s “The Warriors” did it much better.

I understand it was inspired from a graphic novel but it was too “comic-booky”.

It took me three days to wash off all the testosterone.

May have been better filmed as an epic adventure instead of an “MTV video”.

Stiff dialogue and speech patterns that removed me from the time period.

“SEPIA-vision” gives me a headache.

Slow motion to regular film speed. Slow motion to regular film speed. Just pick one!!

I never recovered from my dislike of Frank Miller since Dark Knight 2.

For some reason I kept waiting for it to turn into a musical.

I only counted 176.

In one way it was kind of stylish, in another way it was almost nauseating but I would have walked out if the Spartan jumped, froze and the camera spun around before delivering a kill.

Yup, I agree with you there. I was glad to see a camera effect that wasn't the matrix effect...lol.

I've never been so entertained and disturbed at the same time. Sexualised warfare, fantasy/myth based upon real events and people, high glamour of Hollywood production – it all combined to make the most insidious and pervasive work of fascist art I've ever seen.
