Well first off, while I'd probably be apathetic if such a method was used, the "method described above" is obviously not a literal or realistic solution; one would think you'd not have to worry about that actually being a problem.

Well, I am okay with that. I just saw it a few times...

Hmm..I hate to look at it that way..I guess I try to see the "small hero" things in people. Not necessarily leaping up and jumping on an armed villain..
Alas, we're not a society which encourages such independent thought& action. Last time I went thru concealed carry (for handgun licensing) training,
defense of 3rd parties wasn't legal here. Were one to leap to the lad's defense & harm the perp, one would be facing the whims of the local prosecutor
& a possible necessity defense. Sometimes we want to do what needs to be done, but be aware that no good deed goes unpunished.

Wow. You can't even take your kid to the damn ice cream shop these days. That dad is way more decent than I would've been.

Actually the article seemed to simply say that the dad and a witness "captured" the attacker.

It didn`t say what condition the attacker was in after "capture" nor did it seem to specify the method of "capture".

The witness could have enabled the "capture" by simply keeping the dad from killing him.

Who knows?
