Real Name: Jeff

Location: Canada. The Greater Toronto Area, basically.

Age: 30

Education: B.A.Sc., Engineering

Family: Married, no kids.

Religion: none - atheist.

Occupation: Engineer

Interests: auto racing (basically anything but NASCAR and drag racing. No offense to fans of either one, though - I appreciate that both take huge amounts of skill and effort, and it's a great accomplishment to do either one well, but I think the same thing about solving multi-dimensional partial differential equations, and I don't watch that on Sunday afternoons), martial arts, napping.

I'm a brand-spanking new moderator here, just out of the shrinkwrap. Anyone have any questions that they're itching to ask me?

Welcome grown up penguin to the mod squad!
But first a question or two and a word to the wise...
(considering you're new with childr... uhhh... young waddlers...):pen:

Are you going to let lil penguino interfere with your decision making here?
Even when he nags you and keeps you up till all hours?
Are you going to give him free frubals just because you can?

You know he's gunna try and get at the sweedish fish (& the frubals)
while your busy moderating important situations don't you?

It's just like the telephone.

Sometimes it's better just to hand over the treats.
(but not the frubals. don't cave on the frubals.)

Gentoo is a fine example though.
Just follow her lead and we'll all be just fine!:cover:

ahhh the arctic menagerie...

Ok then ....
happy moderating.:p

Will to love
Congratulations! Does this mean the other 1/10th non-penguin is just a regular member like the rest of us?

Congratulations, Jeff. :)

I went to Toronto ten years ago and spent $150 in parking fees over the three days I was there. Do you take some sort of public transportation to work?

I don't have kids myself, but we've got a gaggle of nieces and nephews. I should be okay... I hope. :D

I will not, under any circumstances, let penguino eat the telephone like a Swedish fish.

Right now, the other 1/10ths is a Boltzmann Chicken (my take on the hypothetical Boltzmann brain, but involving spontaneous poultry rather than spontaneous intelligence), so I imagine it's floating somewhere in space, if it's existing at all.

I do not. I'm not actually in downtown Toronto (and I agree that parking is CRAZY down there); I live out in the suburbs close to my office; I bike to work in good weather, and drive otherwise.

When I do go into the city, I do try to take the train.

Congrats! You'll make a great Mod!

Who is the green spikey one in your avatar? I've always wondered.

Thanks for the nice sentiments, all!

Who is the green spikey one in your avatar? I've always wondered.

He's Crypty the Cryptosporidium, mascot of Blakely, GA's "Cryptosporidium Daze" festival, according to the article in the Onion.

My original avatar was a yeastie... a Brettanomyces lambicus (which can ruin wine, but makes certain Belgian beers wonderful). For Hallowe'en, I decided that my Brettanomyces would dress up as a Cryptosporidium, and it kinda stuck. :D

Aah! Thanks for clearing it up. He's a cute little fella! :)

Umm... moderating? ;)

You don't have to be religious to have an interest in religion... much the same way you don't have to be a Medieval European to have an interest in Medieval Europe.
