If you believe chimps and humans are 99% similar, I assume you yourselves have hashed and rehashed the data ON YOUR OWN, not just read the arguments and presentations of others, right?
When did you hash and rehash the data?

True. Proving evolution wrong does not get us to Jesus. Proving a half-baked fallacy wrong is a fools errand.

But back to the question:
If you did not perform your own analysis of the article, how did you come to believe it?

I suspect you believe it because a bunch of scientists told you to. Correct?

So you are implying that there is a vast conspiracy among tens of thousands of scientists across the entire globe and reaching back at least 200 years to make up the evidence? or are you implying that tens of thousands of scientists can't make sense of the evidence but you can figure it out? I don't think I need to read all of the papers and personally see all of the evidence to believe the scientific method produces results. And yes, I believe a bunch of scientists can interpret the available evidence much better than you or I can. But if you have a different theory which conforms to all of the avaiable evidence, lay it out for everyone.

It's been 3 weeks now and nobody else is coming forward with their own analysis of the chimp DNA article.

Lots of comments and opinions, No analysis. Zip. Nada.

Many people believe the study but few have analyzed it on their own. What does this mean?

I think this means just one word: faith.

What do you think?

2 Timothy 4: Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

I remember when I was secular-minded, I loved hearing how the world and everything somehow made itself. It itched the itch. But itching the itch didn't make it true.

Anyway, still waiting for an analysis from another forum member. I thought I would have a bunch of you chiming in by now but.....Nada...Zip. The silence is deafening...

This goes to show, all people, of all different viewpoints, use their faith in one form or another. Even atheists.

So is this an admission that you believe because a group of them said so?

Of course its not a conspiracy. Ridiculous to even think it is. I am not a conspiracy type anyway. And it doesn't need to be a conspiracy in order for a group of scientists to be wrong, now does it?

Did Jesus mention a conspiracy? No. Here it is again:

Matthew 7: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

I think you are not interested in anything other than preaching your sermons.
why do I think that?
Because you have to ignore posts:

in order to continue on with your sermons.
Wait...
That is exactly what you did....

Looks to me that people realized you are only here to preach and have given up on anything resembling honest discussion with you on the topic.

Bible quotes as evidence for anything are useless unless you believe in that god already, so spare me.

Yes I believe that scientists are better at analyzing the data than you are. I already said that. But suppose they are all wrong.....so what?

Evolution is just plain logical-- all material things tend to change over time, and genes are material things.

It's perfectly clear. Just because one shares something with another, it does not mean it is evolved from it.

If that were in fact the only single thing supporting the theory of evolution I would agree. Fortunately, there is a great deal more to it.....you should try actually educating yourself on the subject instead of remaining willfully ignorant on the topic.

Besides, you tend to want to discount evolution as a way to make room for your god. If evolution were proved completely false tomorrow, it would provide no evidence for your god's existence at all. It would just leave you with a mustery.

The normal angry evolution vs. creationism response, I see!

You have absolutely no clue what presumptions you're throwing around.

You should actually educate yourself in what one actually says first.

Just because I made you angry some how does not mean I want to discount evolution.

Calm down bro, why so serious? Oh wait, I don't believe my ancestors are monkeys (the main belief I clearly shared). Forum rules allow such rhetoric questions I originally posted, not my fault ;)

LOL I am quite calm, just frustrated that after all this time, you still do not understand how evolution actually works. I did make some presumptions. I presumed that your statement indicated that you do not believe evolution takes place and that all life descends from a common origin. I also presumed taht you do so to make room for your god to exist. Were those wrong?

Yes, they were wrong. Everything thing you "assumed" has nothing to do with what I originally started here.

Potatoes have eyes and pigs too. Are they our ancestors too?

To be precise, us and pigs (and potatoes) share a common ancestor. So, we did not evolve from pigs. From that common ancestor two evolutionary branches developed. One lead to humans (and others), the orher to pigs (and others).

I reccomend "The Ancestor's Tale" from Dawkins if you are interested to see when and how that happened, based on the evidence we have.

I am afraid not. The organic entities which turned into the Wiener Schnitzel with French fries I am eating, were not there, either, I guess.

By the way, if me and the Wiener Schnitzel belonged to separate trees of life, why am I not poisend by that?
