A Bug for Dan

I found a bright red beetle under a rock yesterday; about the size of a lightening bug. Never saw one before in my life...
There are some ground beetles and bombardier beetles that have parts of their bodies that are red. It could be one of them.

I was on a night trip once walking through woods when the guy I was with yelled and was shaking his hand in surprise at the sting of pain. He had seen and unwittingly tried to pick up a bombardier beetle. It disagreed with his intent.

I take it they're feisty critters?

This is an online picture relatively close to the guy I found under the rock:

That one I'm not familiar with. But it looks sort of like a fire-colored beetle and those aren't bombardier beetles or regular ground beetles. They are in the family Pyrochroidae. I've not seen one like the picture before. Rather attractive color. Could be advertising that it isn't edible.

Lucky for both myself and the bug, then, that I wasn't considering eating it.

It is. I've eaten a lot of bugs. Crickets are crunchy if you prepare them right.
I used to have a coworker that ate them chocolate covered.

So, all I have to do is eat chocolate covered crickets for breakfast tomorrow, and my dishes will do themselves, the cats will scoop their own boxes, and there will most certainly be no temper tantrums from anyone....

I'm so glad you told me this trick! :D

Oh no. You'll have to do all that.

From the sound of it, eating a bug might be preferable. I help with cat boxes and eating a bucket of bugs wouldn't make that go away. If it would, I'd have a bucket handy.

I'm always tired, I understand.
I have sleep apnea and allergies. When the allergies act up the cpap doesn't work. I've been struggling with it all winter. I'm so tired sometimes, I'm not even sure how I stay awake. But I do and I get things done. Just not so efficiently as normal.
