A Christian must have a full beard

adam45

Member
I believe Christians cannot look the way they want,
but the way God wants them to.
I will mention Bible verses to prove this.

How a male Christian must look like:
a full beard,
no bald head,
do not shorten the sides of the hair on the head or beard,
no long hair,
no tattoos,
only decent clothes,
men's clothing only.

How a female Christian must look like:
no beard,
no bald head,
long hair,
no tattoos,
only decent clothes,
women's clothing only,
she must cover herself, that means,
no tight clothing,
and no nudity.

Sources: Leviticus 19:27, 21:25; 1Corinthians 11:14-15,

Of course, there can be natural exceptions,
for example, someone cannot have a beard or hair on their head.
Such a person is excused.

I don't think you're backing a winner here. Most people, Christian or not, aren't interested in looking like tribesmen and -women from 3,000 years ago. The handful that are, are already doing it.

When you say, "men's clothing only", what do you make of priests in pretty skirts ('robes')?

And I notice your 'no nudity' rule applies only to women.

I’m interested to why you are starting all these ‘unusual’ threads?

Is there some sort of reason, just curious.

Some of the things you have listed may be applicable, but I think you need to learn how to read the scriptures and rightly handle the Word of truth
(2 Timothy 2:14-16). When reading the Bible, ask who, what, where, why, and when to discern appropriate application.

Good grief mate .. tell me we are not going to follow levitical law .. "Please" -- Pretty please .. with sugar on top !

Let us hearken not to the covenant of lord YHWH .. nor that of Lord Jealous .. the second replacing the first but, instead let us look to the God of Jesus .. "our father who art in heaven .. Hallowed be thy name" ... and with this God make thy covenant ..

Oi Oi Oi -- let us not hearken to to the Pseudepigrapha nor the Pious fraud .. but to "The Word" .. of our God .. delivered to us through Jesus .. via the spirit of the lord .. of which Brother 2 Timothy is not.

The Christian Bible disagrees with you. Acts 15:10-11, emphasis mine.

10 Now then, why do you test God by placing on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? 11On the contrary, we believe it is through the grace of the Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

... just as they are ... beard or no-beard.

Let's look at the Bible verses you brought.

Sources: Leviticus 19:27

That doesn't work. Leviticus 19 is only incumbent on the children ( offspring, descendants ) of Jacob whose name is Israel.

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 Speak to the entire congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them, You shall be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy.

1Corinthians 11:14-15

That doesn't work. 1 Corinthians 11:14-15 doesn't require beards. The teaching here is to "follow nature" in this case.

14 Doesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering

Me too. Not surprised though. We were overdue for some weird stuff. Normally the poster goes away after a while and is not heard from again. Let's see if that pattern holds good here.

@adam45, I'm not suggesting you should not post weird stuff. In this rather depressing time some humor is more than welcome.

Why is it that the Christians who act as if they really care about the rules in Old Testament always focus on stuff like clothing and tattoos, but never focus on the rules about charity and social justice?

1. The laws given in Leviticus about the four corners of the beard, etc. apply to Jews, not to non-Jews.
2. The interpretation of these laws are not even agreed upon. If you go to one Jewish group, you can be clean shaven as long as you use an electric shaver and not a blade. Go to another Jewish group, and it means having long, curly sideburns. Go to another Jewish group, and obeying it is voluntary.

Modesty is culturally interpreted. If a man lived in a Jewish community in the Pale, it was unthinkable for him not to wear a hat. If a woman is raised in Polynesia in the 1700s, there was no need to cover her breasts. There are cultures where even men are covered from head to toe with only faces and hands being seen, and other cultures where where people go stark naked. My requirement is to abide by the modesty standards of my own culture.

What is "women's clothing" is also culturally interpreted. In some cultures, women's clothing means no pants. In other cultures, women's clothing is pants. In my own, women's clothing can include both pants and dresses. I'm just relieved that I don't live in a culture where "women's clothing" requires me to wear a corset or have my feet broken to fit into super small shoes!!

I don't believe we should be legalistic about clothes or looks.
I disagree. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not here to say that all men should have beards. :) Only that every culture has its norms, and that they need to be respected. For example, in my culture it is an insult to the bride if anyone else wears white. Nor would I show up for a formal state dinner with ambassadors and dignitaries wearing only shredded jeans and a 49ers t-shirt. Clothing is a form of nonverbal communication, and every culture speaks its own language.

The problem I have with the opening post is that he wants to take the dress standards from a completely different culture and impose them on people in the here and now.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Oh I agree with you. I don't think that's legalistic though.

I would take major care when using the Old Testament rules. Many of them simply wouldn't be applicable as per the New Testament. But Corinthians is fair game.

I appreciate those topics because they serve as a mean to show how Christians don't follow the bible... (and yet often criticize others who are not even members of their religion)

What? You want all bald people to wear a toupee or grow a hideous comb over?
