So I've heard of stories where family stops talking, or friendships end over the events of the past 4 years.

It hasn't really effected me all that much, since I'm a political independent who really doesn't invest too much of myself into any political alignment. That said, my dad is a right-wing conservative, and I do have a bad habit of playing the devil's advocate. We have had some heated conversations when it comes to politics.

What about you folks, though? Have you lost any relationships due to the political climate, or have you been largely untouched in your personal lives like me?

The only time I get into political arguments is on the internet. With my real world relationships, I don't talk about politics much - and it rarely comes up anyway.

I side with God. King Nebuchadnezzar, who was so prideful that he supposed he was supreme ruler, was taught a lesson that it is God who rules the kingdoms of men and gives it to whomever He will.
If it be true that God gives the kingdoms of men to whomever He wills, it be foolish of me to vote against God's choice.

The only time I get into political arguments is on the internet. With my real world relationships, I don't talk about politics much - and it rarely comes up anyway.

It's the same for me. But I did notice that my dog park friends, for example, were all vehemently against the former POTUS on the rare occasions that politics were mentioned.

Then again, I live in Northern California.

I've had some acquaintances who were diehard Republicans block me on social media after I called Trump a fascist, so there's that.

Christians are strangers in this world.

I think some are very much strangers to 'this world', if that's what the kids are calling 'reality' these days. Can you think of any reasons why that might be true of some Christians?

If I was asked my own question, I might begin with what I had reason to believe I knew of human nature, then proceed to see if there was anything in Christianity that had a tendency to channel human nature into dysfunctional behaviors.

Or I might start at the other end, and try to 'reverse engineer'. so to speak, how any patterns of dysfunctional behaviors that I believed I had reason to associate with Christianity might trace back to ways the religion tended to channel human nature.

That's not enough by itself to arrive at any firm conclusions, but I've found it to be a good start.

My family has weathered storms, before. This was a difficult one, but through tact and the youngers not bad mouthing the olders we came through. Generally speaking we all have our own points of view but don't try to argue them, usually. Sometimes they creep into conversation. Social networks tend to draw out the worst, but most of us have learned to keep that a friendly situation and to avoid making lots of urgent political posts.

There has been an exception. Two extended family members stopped being each other's friends on facebook. They were both very prolific in putting forward strong opinions and arguing heavily, so nobody missed the confrontation. I always found it annoying not entertaining. Kind of sad that they couldn't handle it differently.

I have a couple friends who have lost their minds regarding some of these issues. But fortunately, so far, they value friendship above self-righteousness. And so it has not come to anything more than agreeing to disagree, and then stop talking about it.

Several on my wife's side as she has dropped several that are so utterly sarcastic and off the wall. On my side, we just don't talk politics since 2016.

I do find it I retesting that when I do talk politics (especially with right wing folks) at work, they just plain stop talking to me afterwords if they are super passionate about it.

I know people shouldn't talk politics at work, but I've done well in honing my ability to not give a damn. It's a wonderful skill to cultivate!
