A Pagan Leading Body?

The Neo Nerd

I was at a pagan full moon gathering the other day where some of them were bemoaning the fate of some of the groups that have tried to unite pagans together.

Now, atleast in Australia, pagan groups tend to fail. This is usually because of internal personality issues and apathy amongst the members.

I'm against the idea. Look at the history of some of the religious bodies we have now. Will a pagan leading body behave any differently once they have established power. I don't care which gods you do or don't worship, the people running the show will be subject to the greed and fear that is inherent in human behaviour.

What do you guys think. Do you think a pagan governing body would be a good idea.

Would it become a power hungry, self righteous, proselityzing wank tard of a group, forcing it's beliefs on other people and the laws of the land?

A governing body for any religion is a bad idea. Those who seek power seek to use it. On the other hand, it certainly helps to have organisation for functions and activities... so really it's a case of balancing organising your members with the powers of those who organise. Transparency would definitely be best.

I think it is a matter of personal choice. Some can focus better with support. Personally, I don't even wish to be in a coven. I like doing it all alone.

Im not sure if it fits, but I would have thought the Freemasons, Rosicrucians and similar fit the bill. I see they have influence and established institutions and are successful.

Cheers
