A question for muslims

Pegg

Jehovah our God is One
I would specifically like to know in what way you believe the bible has been changed?

However, i dont just want to be told that the quran says the bible is changed, therefore the bible is changed. I want someone to show me the evidence that it has been changed.

I want to know

1. What parts of the hebrew and greek scriptures you believe have been changed.

2. I want to see how the conclusion was made that they were changed.

3. And if you have evidence that they were changed, then you must have the evidence of what they were originally... so I want to see the evidence for what they were originally.

If you provide any information, i want to know what translation of hebrew and greek scriptures you are using. That means you need to provide the name of the manuscripts you are basing your evidence on.

I look forward to your replies.

Hello Pegg

There are many resources on the Internet which answer your questions in detail, like for example the late Ahmad Deedat (South Africa), Dr. Jamal Badawi (Canada) and many others

You may wish to check the answer to these questions by expert scholars:

The Bible: What Changes Were Made?

Is the Bible the Word of God?

What Islam Says About the Bible

Peace and best regards

thank you for the links. The first two i have read, but the 3rd wont load.

The first one appears to question "Biblical Scholarship" in general. There are no examples in there of what or how the scriptures became corrupted except to say that the church leaders couldnt agree on doctrines.

But i'd like to get your view on this... the article states:
The craftsmanship in the writing is what has led to error over the years. Muslims, of course, believe that the Quran is the final revelation of Almighty God to humankind, that it was not crafted in any way by individuals, and that it is the literal Word of God.
They would point to the fact that different copies of the Quran from different countries and centuries agree with one another totally, even down to punctuation. There is no room, in this Muslim understanding of revelation, for human writers conveying God's message as best they could. The words revealed directly to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over a period of twenty-three years, are what we have today as the Quran.
Can you please explain how the Quran is any different to the bible in regard to writership? Mohammad was illiterate, so he could not write and i believe others actually wrote the words as dictated by Mohammad (?) But the Quran must have been written by someone? And it has been copied by someone over the years too...just like the bible.

so if that is the case, how is the Quran considered the word of God, but the bible not?

Hi Pegg,

Fantastic question.

Yes Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was an illiterate person. And yes you are correct that Quran was actually documented by companions (PBUH). As you learn that Quran took 23 years to completely revealed on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He (PBUH) used to pray Quran in prayers. Jabriel used to bring verses from god to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and used to get him memorize those verses which he used to pray louder in his prayers. Of course, his companions who used to pray with him started memorizing the words of quran. Process of documenting quran was started in his life on stones, leaves etc. By the time, he (PBUM) departed from this world, there were 17 companions who knew the whole Quran by heart. After his death, Abu Bakar (PBUH) who was the most respected companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) became the first caliph and decided to give quran a shape of a book. Now, the source was the accumulated stones and leaves where the verses were written on and 17 companions who memorized quran by heart. The way the quran was documented, they required at least 2 evidences for each verse from those companions. This process of collecting verses had given a shape of a compiled collection. The copy was preserved with Hafsa (RA). In last 1400 years, nothing has been changed in this book, not even a single punctuation.

Hope I answered your question.

Thanks brother

i dont just want to be told that the quran says the bible is changed

First off, the Qur'an never said the Bible (and I do mean here the new testament) had changed.
As for the old testament (Torah), there are a couple of verses spoke about some changing (Tahreef), but some Islamic scholars (including ibn taymiyyah) said the changing was just in the meaning not in the same text.

thank you for the replies.

When i read those verses from the quran, they appear to say the same..that it is the 'meaning' of the scriptures that the people of the book had changed by their interpretations. However, so many muslims are under the impression that the scriptures themselves have been altered and can no longer said to be Gods word.

And when you ask for specific details, of course they have none because, as your rightly stated C.E.O., it is the 'meaning' of the scriptures that they change. And that happens when they introduce doctrines not found in the scriptures such as the trinity and the immortal soul and everyone is going to heaven etc etc

I think it is because of ignorance which is fanned and propagated by those community leaders who are trying to show their "religion" as superior to others. Its basically an ego thing.
